    Description
    The Specialist has responsibility for the implementation of the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) program. This includes leadership to maintain EHS&S compliance and continuous improvement. EHS&S supports operations of biologic contract development and manufacturing organization.

    Responsibilities include incident response, reporting and investigations; environmental permit management; and risk management.

    Implements all applicable EHS&S programs for the site such as:
    lockout/tagout, confined space entry, first aid and emergency response, industrial hygiene, hazard communication, PPE, workers compensation, etc. Coordinates with operations to identify and mitigate risks with effective engineering controls, procedures, and training.


    • Interface with KBI staff: Maintain productive working relationships with EHS&S and site staff. Collaborate on ways to enhance the Safety culture. Communicate regularly with system owners or area managers to provide status reports, plan program activities and review EHS&S program effectiveness.
    • Assessments and Inspections: Regular internal self-audits and external client or regulatory inspections of systems as required by HSE procedures or programs.
    • Accidents/Incidents: Respond to injuries and incidents, direct all reporting, follow up investigations and remediation, and maintain regulatory reporting systems.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Represent KBI during OSHA, EPA, DENR, DOL or other regulatory inspections, as well as during client audits as well as assuring that the staff and site are operated in a compliant manner.
    • HSE Procedures: Draft, review and revise HSE systems, including practices, including policies, procedures and manuals to ensure that HSE practices promote safe and compliant behavior.
    • Employee Training: Provide training as needed for HSE programs.
    *PPE: Assess and specify appropriate PPE solutions for each task. Provide training as needed to monitor use.

    • HSE Records: Maintain and manage HSE records, including but not limited to MSDonline, waste management, chemical inventory, training records, environmental permits.
    • Waste Management: Manage all waste activities including storage, treatment, disposal record keeping. Maintain business relationships with associated handling vendors.
    • Emergency Preparedness: Manage and maintain HSE supplies, equipment, materials and training as specified by HSE procedures or programs.
    • Contractor Safety: Ensure all permits, training, PPE and behaviors are observed by contractors onsite.

    Requirements:


    BA Science degree in an occupational health and safety or related field and a minimum of 3 years industry experience or a BA Science in a technical discipline and a minimum of 5 years experience as a safety professional in R&D and/or R&D and/or manufacturing, minimum of 8 years as a safety professional.

    Relevant training and/or certification in regulated safety and environmental actives such as:


    RCRA Hazardous Waste Management, DOT hazardous materials shipping, First Aid/CPR/AED, 30 Hr General Industry OSHA Certification, 40 Hr HAZWOPER certification, etc.


    Preferred:

    • Experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment (biotech, pharmaceutical or medical device industries).
    • Knowledge of the operations typical to the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry.

    Salary Range:

    EHSS Specialist II:
    $70,441 - $96,856

    Salary range provided per current averages and expectations.

    The salary and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
