    Prepare quotes, proposals, technical specifications, and statement of work documents in response to requests for custom hardware or software from the Sales and Marketing organization
    Execution of all custom product orders from order receipt to final shipment (and occasionally installation), meeting or exceeding commercial and performance objectives (technical specification, safety, on-time, on-budget, customer satisfaction)
    Works closely with R&D Engineering on hybrid development projects, with the aim of proactively developing product solutions with repeat sales potential

    Direct supervision and growth management of a staff of technical professionals including mechanical, and electrical engineers, senior engineers, and principal engineers, as well as engineering technicians, designers, and additional contract resources.

    Lead the custom engineering processes associated with business order pursuit. Includes the development of competitive engineered solutions, technical specifications, proposals, risk assessment and cost estimates.

    Management of all aspects of projects associated with the custom business order backlog, including schedule, technical performance, cost and safety.

    Identification of resource requirements including hiring of full-time and contract personnel in response to changing business needs.
    Allocation of resources and project assignments based on required skill sets and resource availability.
    Support Instron Service and customers to address issues with Custom Engineered Solutions installed at customer sites.

    Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering with 7-10 year's experience in the design and delivery of complex electro-mechanical products.

    Past experience managing solid-line reports is a plus.
    In-depth familiarity with Instron products and their applications acquired through at least 5 years of experience.

    Understanding of project management and inter-relationships with Sales, Marketing, and Manufacturing required for the successful delivery of Custom Engineering proposals and finished products.

    Proven record of strong leadership, interpersonal, collaboration, negotiation, communication and organizational skills as well as multi-disciplined technical acumen.
    Demonstrated extreme sense of urgency and out-of-the-box creativity to keep projects on schedule. Anticipate next steps autonomously.
    Use a pragmatic 80/20 approach to decision making.
    Strike the right balance between driving details and bigger picture strategy.
    Write and deliver performance reviews and annual work plans for reporting engineers.
    Ability to motivate, guide, and develop a team of technical professionals.

    A positive attitude focused on understanding, anticipating, and responding to the needs of our customers, both internal and external to the department and organization.
