- Provide academic advising services to current and potential students.
- Assist students with identifying needed courses, planning a course schedule, and preparing to transfer as applicable.
- Document advising visits using established protocols.
- Assist students in career exploration, selecting an area of study, and planning for transfer to a four-year college or university.
- Stay up to date on changes to math and/or English placement based on identified placement exams in use at the college.
- Refer students to other offices or departments as appropriate and facilitate communication between the incarcerated students and other offices/departments as needed.
- Use CRM Advise to identify at-risk students, manage early alerts, and communicate with students as appropriate.
- Coordinate responses to early alert (EA) submissions through direct communication with students identified through EA or by referring the case to an appropriate staff member or office.
- Use the software provided to assist with student scheduling and early alerts.
- Refer students to other offices or departments as needed and inform students about support services available through the College or community resources.
- Stay up to date with current issues related to advising, placement, disability services, and other applicable topics by attending webinars, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
- Meet with students about the financial aid application process, types of financial aid available, and deadlines for applying for aid.
- Assist students with completing the required forms as needed.
- Assist Testing Center staff with delivering and proctoring placement exams.
- Assist students with admissions application.
- Assist incarcerated students with obtaining the documents necessary to complete the admissions process, including transcripts from other educational institutions and vaccination records.
- Treat students with respect and approach advising from the perspective of a growth mindset.
- Participate in professional development appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.

- Ability to recognize situations that require referral to other departments and ability to refer students to appropriate supports with dignity and respect.
- Knowledge of academic advising processes and enrollment procedures
- Understand and enforce FERPA as it relates to student information.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with numerous and diverse individuals and groups in higher education and correctional settings.
- A dedication to providing excellent customer service in-person, on the telephone, or using video conferencing technologies.
- Ability to function effectively in a secure environment and work within the parameters set by the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, or a related field from an accredited institution.

- Training or Technical Skills:
- Working knowledge of the Internet and commonly used computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to pass a background check required with the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive state vehicles.
- Experience working in social work, higher education, or related field.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse staff and student population.
- Ability to work collaboratively to support the overall functions of the Student Success Center.

Description
Objective:
The Enrollment and Advising Coordinator will support activities related to admissions, enrollment, financial aid, and academic advising for incarcerated students. In addition, this position will serve as a key facilitator for communication between staff at the main campus and students in the prison education program. This position will support the director of the prison education program and will report to both the director and the Lead Student Success Coach. This position will also serve as the lead instructor for the Re-entry and Career Development course.
The position will be housed on the College's main campus in Pine Bluff, AR; however, travel will be required on a regular basis. The College currently operates a prison education program at three units within the Arkansas Department of Corrections - the Varner, Cummins, and Delta units. This position will interface with incarcerated individuals who are either currently enrolled in the prison education program or are interested in enrolling in the program. This position is responsible for assisting students through the admissions and enrollment process, including application processes for financial aid.

Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, sitting, walking, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use; occasional stressful situations and/or situations involving complex interpersonal communication. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
