Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Location – This
is a hybrid role, which means that you will have the flexibility to work both
onsite and at a distance. You will collaborate onsite 3-5 days per week, and the
rest of the time you can choose to work remotely or onsite. Onsite work will primarily happen at either our Cashton, WI or La Farge, WI office locations. Regular visits to our other locations is also expected.
Employee Type – Salaried  
Bonus – This position is eligible for a 5% annual incentive bonus based on cooperative and individual performance.

Summary of Role

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible
for developing and implementing strategic safety programs, ensuring compliance
with regulations (OSHA, EPA), managing risks, driving a safety-first culture,
overseeing environmental impact, and partnering with leadership on big-picture
EHS goals to protect workers and the environment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct, communicate, and audit safety programs, policies, procedures, best practices, and operational safety programs, and make recommendations to management to ensure compliance with related local, state, federal, and OSHA regulations.
  • Promote behavior-based safety to create and maintain a positive safety culture that involves employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Identify and evaluate hazards in the workplace and recommend solutions to minimize risk. This includes working in diverse environments, up to 25 percent of time dedicated to "floor time" in CROPP facilities, combined with coaching/mentoring Health and Safety staff, as well as other staff.
  • Develops and/or modifies Health and Safety policies and processes.
  • Define, coordinate, implement and support safety training programs for employees, supervisors, managers, and contractors.
  • Identify and track key performance indicators related to Health and Safety.
  • Communicate performance expectations by evaluating employee performance, providing timely feedback, training and coaching, and recommending personnel actions for assigned staff.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Lead the development and execution of
    EHS strategies aligned with organizational goals and regulatory
    requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and
    other federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Establish and maintain environmental
    sustainability programs, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and
    resource conservation initiatives.
  • Develop and implement risk assessment
    processes to proactively identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to
    cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety and environmental
    stewardship.
  • Monitor and analyze EHS performance
    metrics, driving continuous improvement through data-driven
    decision-making.
  • Coordinate and lead incident
    investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Manage EHS training programs to ensure
    employee awareness and compliance.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with
    regulatory agencies and maintain all required documentation and reporting.
  • Lead and develop a team of EHS
    professionals, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to
    ensure high engagement and effectiveness.
  • Establish clear goals and
    accountability for team members, fostering a collaborative and
    results-driven environment.
  • Champion professional development
    opportunities for the EHS team to build expertise and leadership
    capabilities.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and
    inclusion within the team and across EHS initiatives.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee accident and near-miss investigations to uncover root cause, recommend preventative measures to prevent reoccurrences, and track completion of corrective actions.
  • Provide managers and supervisors with health and safety recommendations on facility, equipment, and workspace design and implementation to create and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Prepare budget and monitors expenditures.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety or related field and seven or more years of health and safety experience required.
  • Supervisory or staff management experience preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs required.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a team environment with solution orientation.
  • Ability to work successfully with state and federal government agencies.
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle confidentiality in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to work at multiple CROPP locations; occasionally work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS management within a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM are highly desirable.

Base salary range: $88, $110,687.20 per
year
This salary range
is exclusive of fringe benefits. The compensation package may also include
incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary bonuses. If
you are hired at CROPP, your final base salary compensation will be determined
based on factors such as skills, education, and/or
experience. Additionally, we believe in the importance of pay equity and
consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final
offer. Please keep in mind that entry-level candidates to this role should
expect to be at the lower end of the salary range and hiring at the maximum of the salary range
is not typical.
