    This position provides Recreational Therapy services to the Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center.

    The Recreational Therapist primary job responsibilities are:

    • Conducts assessments on all assigned residents,
    • Develops resident treatment goals and treatment interventions/strategies to assist residents to gain independence
    • Social skill development
    • Community integration
    • Provides input into the overall treatment team planning process
    • Documents all progress related to recreational therapy activities and sessions

    Work Week:
    Monday through Friday

    (including some holidays and weekend coverage as needed)

    About the facility:

    JFK is a 68-bed inpatient treatment facility designed to meet the needs of adults with substance use disorders from the 44 westernmost counties in North Carolina.

    The facility treats individuals with substance abuse and psychiatric diagnoses.

    JFK is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a Behavioral Health facility and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as an inpatient psychiatric hospital.

    Minimum Education and Experience:

    • Licensed to practice recreational therapy by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure.

    Management Preferences:

    • Thorough knowledge of fundamental principles, philosophies, and techniques of RT
    • Working knowledge of individuals with IDD/physical disabilities
    • Ability to assess complete all aspects of RT service documentation
    • Sklilled in evaluating progress, make evaluative reports to treatment teams
    • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate RT service programs on on-going basis
    • Communicate effectively
    • Maintain a professional and effective relationship with population served.
