    Job Summary
    The Department of Physics at Auburn University is looking to hire an Administrator for Physics Instructional Equipment. This position will manage and oversee the use of demonstration and astronomy equipment used in support of Physics Instruction at Auburn University.

    Essential Functions

    Essential functions for this position include but are not limited to:
    • Contribute to the selection, preparation, and delivery of astronomy equipment and lecture demonstrations.
    • Possess the ability to actively troubleshoot demonstrations and/or equipment that may malfunction during an active lecture
    • Ensure the upkeep and readiness of demonstration equipment, classroom set-ups, and other classroom equipment including personal response systems.
    • Manage and coordinate the availability, use, and maintenance of laboratory and astronomy equipment, materials, and/or key inventories.
    • Oversee, direct, and train graduate and undergraduate students in the proper use of demonstration and astronomy equipment and supplies and provide expertise and advice concerning safety.
    • Advise on equipment evaluation and selection for demonstration/astronomy facility requirements.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Masters degree in Physics, Astronomy, or related STEM field

    Experience:
    Level I - requires no relevant experience
    Level II - requires 2 years of experience in the management and coordination of physics/astronomy/science labs.
    Level III - requires 4 years of experience in the management and coordination of physics/astronomy/science labs.

    Substitutions allowed for Experience:
    When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

    Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

    Minimum Skills and Abilities
    Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skill and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Candidates must be knowledgeable of laboratory safety regulations.

    Desired Qualifications

    Desired Qualifications
    Candidates with experience with Physics and Astronomy teaching, particularly with the use of demonstration equipment and telescopes are particularly desirable. Candidates with a terminal degree (PhD) in Physics or related field are desirable. Candidates should have strong organizational and technical skills sufficient to maintain and perform minor repairs on equipment.
