About This Position


The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation's largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles.

Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.


Are you a skilled electrician with a passion for complex systems and meaningful work? Join our team as a Water Services Electrician, where you'll perform advanced, Journeyman-level electrical work that directly supports the delivery of safe, reliable water to our community.


In this role, you'll work on commercial and industrial electrical systems up to 12,470 volts, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and industry best practices.

From intricate motor control wiring to high-voltage systems, your expertise will help keep critical infrastructure running smoothly.

What You'll Do

Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical systems in water treatment plants and remote facilities.
Install and maintain equipment in high-demand environments, including electrical utility, and industrial settings.
Safely work with voltages ranging from 600V to Medium Voltage, using proper PPE and safety protocols.
Interpret blueprints, sketches, ladder diagrams, and work orders to complete assignments efficiently.
Train and mentor new and current staff, sharing your knowledge and experience.
Occasionally work with electronics metering, instrumentation, and various voltage systems.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Technically Proficient:

Skilled in troubleshooting and maintaining commercial/industrial electrical systems up to 12,470 volts, with strong knowledge of the NEC and motor controls.


Safety-Conscious:
Consistently follows electrical safety protocols and uses appropriate PPE for both low and medium voltage environments.

Team-Oriented Mentor:
Works collaboratively with crews and takes initiative in training and supporting fellow electricians.


SALARY
$ $40.61 per hour base wage. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

Additional Compensation For Unit 002 Positions Includes

Extra Pay for the Work You Do

Shift Differential Pay for night and weekend hours

Standby Pay:
$2.50 per hour

Callout Pay:
Paid at time and a half your regular hourly rate

Tool Allowance:
$300 annually, prorated based on number of months in position

Time Off You Can Count On

13.5 paid holidays

Vacation:
Earn 8 hours per month

Sick Leave:
Earn 10 hours per month

401(a) plan with a 3.62% employer contribution on your base wage

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of a recognized four year electrical apprenticeship program, or equivalent training;
OR three years of experience as a skilled electrician.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.

Working conditions and environment may require:
Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
Working in small, cramped areas such as ceiling crawl spaces, and equipment enclosures.
Working at heights up to 100 feet.
Walking for prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business.

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.

Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
Three years of medium voltage installation, service, or maintenance.

Five years of experience in:
Industrial/commercial electrical work.
Troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing electrical systems.
Industrial automation and motor/process controls.
Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and one-line diagrams.
Additional Skills And Knowledge

Application of NFPA 70E and OSHA safety standards.
Working in Water Production Plants, Wellfields, or Wastewater Treatment Plants.
Preventative maintenance and repair of large industrial systems.
Hands-on experience with large horsepower motors, VFDs, and related equipment.
Customer service and coordination with contractors or service partners.
Reviewing construction plans and making technical recommendations.
Using asset management systems and computers for task tracking.
Installation and maintenance of medium voltage (12.47kV, 13.8kV) feeder systems and substations.
Experience with S.E.S., transformers, or generator equipment.
