    Description

    Job Title: Electrician

    Company: Northern VA Community College


    General Description:
    This job focuses on ensuring that students, faculty, and staff have a comfortable and secure environment through the expertise of a qualified Electrician. Quick responses to support the college mission are essential. Occasional changes in campus locations may be required.


    Duties and Tasks:

    • Exercise independent judgment in implementing policies, procedures, and technical knowledge in the electrical field.
    • Act as the college's technical advisor on electrical issues, assessing contracted electrical work.
    • Review documents for small projects to ensure proper integration with existing systems and compliance with regulations and safety codes.
    • Maintain electrical systems, troubleshoot and conduct new installations according to codes.
    • Perform maintenance work on fire alarm systems, sprinklers, and emergency call boxes.
    • Diagnose and repair electrical issues, manage electrical parts inventory.
    • Complete work orders promptly and update information in the Maintenance Management System.
    • Collaborate with the Senior Electrician and Facility Manager for guidance.
    • Participate in snow removal and other essential tasks.

    Special Assignment:

    • May be tasked with additional duties as needed.
    • Provide assistance in emergency situations as required by the agency or state government.

    Minimum Qualifications:


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Adept at working at heights and from ladders.
    • Familiarity with building codes, the ability to assess contractors, and apply guidelines effectively.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Able to lift heavy loads, endure diverse weather conditions, and work varied shifts.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
    • Journeyman trade license or equivalent experience.
    • Experience in residential and commercial electrical work.
    • Proficiency in computer and software use.

    Preferred Qualifications:


    Additional Considerations:

    • Background in AAS Electrical Technology.
    • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Work Order systems.
    • Previous work in educational facilities.
    • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, or sketches.
