    Nature of Work

    The purpose of the job is to perform in the role of a lead worker in a centralized accounts payable function and operation, to review, audit and process payment documents for the department statewide. This includes providing guidance and technical assistance to decentralized financial and program staff throughout the department statewide, including financial managers, accountants, and accounting technicians.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Examine documents and transactions to verify calculations and ensure the validity of transactions.
    • Ensure the appropriate coding and documentation is provided.
    • Resolve issues and questions with program staff and vendors.
    • Review, approve, modify or reject financial documents from staff located throughout the department.
    • Assist in the development of policies.
    • Establish operational and administrative procedures for resolving problems and for improving services.
    • Assist in training decentralized staff.
    • Provide technical assistance as a lead worker to DHHR decentralized financial and program staff.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.

    Experience: Four years of full time or equivalent part time paid bookkeeping, accounting, or related experience.

    Substitution: Successful completion of college-level accounting courses from an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of three semester hours equals six months experience;

    OR

    Successful completion of related business school or vocational training may be substituted for the experience through an established formula.
