    The Wilson County Health Department is seeking a dedicated Public Health Nurse II to join our Managed Care team. This role is ideal for a compassionate, detail-oriented nurse who believes that strong care coordination, education, and follow-up are just as critical as hands-on clinical care.

    Compensation: The starting salary for a fully qualified Public Health Nurse II begins at $63,096 + a COMPETITIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE.
    Hours: 8:00 am- 5:00 pm, Monday- Friday. Extended hours and weekend work may be requested or required for special events and/or programmatic needs.
    Description of Work
    A. Managed Care- 50%
    1. Serve as the Lead person for Medicaid Managed Care Program.
    2. Assist in monitoring/reporting of Medicaid Quality Measures for Managed Care.
    3. Assist with the review of Managed Care population summary and scheduling of patients for
    follow-up appointments with the Managed Care Processing Assistant IV.
    4. Participate in the monthly Managed Care Team Meetings with Director of Nursing, Managed
    Care Processing Assistant IV and the CCPN Provider Relations Representative.
    5. Attend the annual CCPN Conference as necessary.
    6. Attend the monthly Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC) webinars and meetings.
    B. Clinical Services- 45%
    1. This position will work as needed in other Health Department clinics and programs including
    Family Planning, Maternity, Child Health, Immunizations, Primary Care, STD, and Communicable Disease
    2. Obtain client history, vital signs, measurements, obtain appropriate lab specimens, provide counseling and education, and referrals to other sources, as necessary.
    3. Dispenses appropriate medications and/or vitamins and iron according to Department's Programmatic Policies/Procedures.
    4. Initiates necessary referrals as per programmatic guidelines.
    5. Performs hearing and visual acuity screenings on children in the Well Child Program as per Bright Future/Child Health Program Guidelines. Refers abnormal findings as per program policy.
    6. Orders appropriate lab work as per Standing Orders.
    7. Position may serve as a back-up for any of the public health programs offered as directed by the Nursing Supervisor or Director of Nursing.
    C. Other Duties- 5%
    1. Assigned duties related to Bioterrorism and Emergency Response activities, to include.
    staffing of emergency shelters.
    2. Duties as assigned by the Health Director and/or their designee.
    3. Attends required staff trainings on OSHA, CPR, and HIPAA as scheduled, as well as other
    continuing educational programs.
    4. Stay updated in all areas of nursing practice by attending workshops, in-services, and reading
    new textbooks, periodicals, and guidelines issued by program coordinators, state, and
    regional consultants. Maintains required continuing education hours.
    5. Maintains required personnel records, such and time and travel.
    6. Helps maintain a safe working environment.
    7. Assist in outreach activities for health promotion and/or other Health Department events.
    Minimum Education and Experience
    Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and one year of Public Health Nursing experience; or Master's in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience including one year of Public Health Nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
    Necessary Special Qualifications - A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N. C. Board of Nursing.
    A copy of the college transcript must be attached to the application.
    Administering the Class - Individuals employed in a local Health Department without a B.S. Degree which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master's in Public Health, will be required to complete the "Introduction to Principles and Practices of Public Health Nursing" course within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule. Experience in a field of nursing that is closely related to the anticipated work assignment can be substituted for Public Health experience for hiring purposes; however, the employee will also be required to complete the "Introduction to Principles and Practices of Public Health Nursing" course or objectively demonstrate an adequate understanding of Public Health practice within 1 year of employment.
