    Job Title: Patent Agent - Biochemistry and Biotechnology Focused

    National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is seeking a patent agent to join their Intellectual Property Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for a substantial active patent docket, including domestic and foreign matters.

    This role requires a solid foundation in molecular biology, biochemistry, or biochemical engineering, as well as the demonstrated ability to draft and prosecute patent applications in the biotechnology arts.

    The patent agent will work closely with NREL's Technology Transfer Office (TTO) and research staff to identify, evaluate, and protect patentable intellectual property.

    Responsibilities include reviewing Records of Invention (ROIs) for patentability, performing prior art searches and analyses, and drafting patent applications for domestic and international filing.

    The patent agent will also provide education and training sessions to research staff on pertinent patent issues and serve as an expert resource on all things patent.

    Bachelor's Degree in a biological sciences field and registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent agent or patent attorney are required.

    Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in chemistry or material science, advanced degree in biochemistry, biochemical engineering, or molecular biology, and experience working in a biology and/or chemistry laboratory are preferred qualifications.
