    Job Description

    The PFS Coder will serve as part of the Patient Financial Services department and be responsible for coding all patient accounts. The PFS Coder will ensure that accurate, ethical, and compliant coding and billing practices are maintained. The PFS Coder will ensure that compliance standards are maintained and comply with Survival Flight's written code of conduct as well as all coding and billing practices, policies, procedures, state laws and all Federal Health Care program requirements.

    Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of ICD-10 Coding Experience (preferably EMS coding experience)
  • Completion of AHIMA or AAPC accredited coding training program
  • Certification in Medical Coding CPC and CCS acceptable
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Proven problem-solving skills and communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette skills
  • Knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Ability to navigate specific billing software to effectively handle accounts
  • Preferred:

  • Certification in Medical Coding (CPC and CCS acceptable), (CPC-A not considered)
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Job Responsibilities:

  • Daily mailing of paper claims and invoices
  • Assign appropriate CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 codes for transportation services
  • Utilizing their specialized knowledge of coding, accurately and appropriately produces billing charges as part of the claim submission process
  • Reviews and verifies documentation that supports diagnosis, procedures, and treatment results
  • Identify discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues
  • Comply with medical coding guidelines and policies
  • Obtain necessary clarification of information on notes and charts from providers
  • Identify missing or incomplete medical records
  • Data Entry, including transferring crew ePCR format into the billing database system
