    Achieve consistency in good practice among site Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs), Crushed Leach (CL), and/or Water Dams (WD) through cross-functional engagement; by providing leadership; by recommending improvements to processes and systems; and through participation in strategic planning. Act as Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) for assigned complex (TSF(s). Provide subject matter expertise to support and continuously improve the framework for sustaining stewardship, stability, and risk management for tailings, crushed leach, and/or water dams. Manage and review Engineering designs and construction plans for crushed leach pads, dams, levees and foundations company-wide and ensure optimization of projects. Serve as technical advisor on geotechnical infrastructure projects and as company resource for geotechnical information and analysis.

  • Serves as RTFE for assigned complex TSF(s) and is responsible for the integrity of the TSF(s). Responsible for the scope of work and budget requirements for the tailings facility, including risk management. Responsible for liaising with the EoR, operations, planning, regulatory affairs, social performance and environment teams. Responsible for the implementation of the design. Responsible for the establishment of a change management system. Responsible for the monitoring system and communication of the results to the EoR, including performance reviews. Responsible to deliver required documentation. Interfaces routinely with site leadership and Accountable Executive.
  • Serves as a technical specialist and perform critical review of geotechnical aspects of crushed leach pads, tailings dams, water dams, levees and infrastructure foundation/civil design investigations and designs. Stay abreast of the state of the practice in Geotechnical Engineering to fulfill this role.
  • Collaborates to continuously ensure good performance of tailings, crushed leach, and water management areas and to identify and implement associated improvements. This includes engaging the Engineer of Record in the design and operations of TSF, CL and WD facilities.
  • Manages projects, liaises with internal stakeholders, and serves as subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex site planning/construction, expansion or modifications.
  • Provides guidance to Managers and Engineers on applicable programs, practices, and regulations. Review reports for design and operations projects and provide recommendations to site team and to project consultants. Facilitate interaction with other functional areas/disciplines.
  • Interprets Geotechnical theory and practice and provide recommendations to Management to aid in decision making.
  • Acts as a company resource and mentor in the practice of Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Proactively identifies and champions new technologies and management programs that will optimize operational operations and improve safety.
  • Ensures optimization of on-going and proposed dams, crushed leach pads and plan foundation structures through technology transfer and benchmarking.
  • Contributes to strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated Engineering areas. Manage appropriate budgets for consulting and other services.
  • Represents the site on company sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams.

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and ten years of experience in an applicable field of expertise, including lead or supervisory experience; OR
  • Master's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and eight years of experience in an applicable field of expertise, including lead or supervisory experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in English to a diversely educated audience
  • Knowledge in the principles and practices of Civil, Geologic, Geotechnical, or Hydrologic Engineering or a related field of Engineering
  • Able to demonstrate technical competence through design and/or operations experience in at least one of the following work areas: tailings storage facilities, crushed leach facilities, water dams, process water balance, and/or slurry transport.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Knowledge in the principles and practices of Civil, Geological, and/or Geotechnical Engineering or a related field of science or Engineering
  • Experience with metal mining operations, especially with tailings storage facility (dam), water dams and/or crushed leach stockpile design, construction, management and operations
  • Relevant combination of Tailings, Crushed Leach and/or Water Dam Operational, Design/Consulting, Project and Program Management experience
  • Field experience in geotechnical site investigations, including crushed ore heap leach and tailings material
  • Experience in soil characterization, interpretation of geotechnical lab tests, and engineering analysis on crushed ore heap leach and tailings material
  • Demonstrated experience in two or more practice areas relevant to tailings and crush leach (e.g. geotechnical engineering, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, slurry transport, seismology, construction management, etc.)
  • Expertise in modeling and numerical approaches to solving engineering challenges
  • Experience with cost estimating for civil projects, project scheduling and project controls
  • Able to research and analyze information of relatively small scope and minimal difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Able to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques in design projects and operational support
  • Expert in managing programs with various levels of operational staff and professionals
  • Project Management experience
  • Proficiency in using appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD, and geotechnical analysis)
  • Fluency in Spanish or Bahasa Indonesian languages
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally
  • Ability and willingness to travel at least five weeks for every quarter

Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance. Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration. Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements.
