    Summary



    The Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) Deputy Chief is a Nurse Practitioner; he/she is accountable for the management, supervision and evaluation of care for patients and staff within GEC and associated programs that are organizationally aligned under GEC.



    Duties


    The Deputy Chief Geriatrics, Extended Care provides leadership and clinical oversight for the full range of service in a highly complex patient population. The Deputy Chief will ensure compliance with local, VHA, and accreditation standards for GEC programs. They will actively cultivate employee development and engagement. He/She provides vision, models servant leadership, and collaborates with front-line staff in developing new modalities for improving patient care.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are limited to:

    • Acts as secondary level of GEC Chief Support in relation to Chief of GEC. Supporting essential functions of service chief as his/her surrogate or coverage in leadership decisions.
    • Serves as director supervisor (or indirect oversight) of assigned GEC staff.
    • Maintains required clinical role percentage to administrative time to remain active/privileged APRN.
    • Develops and utilizes performance-based needs and assessments to promote individualized development and competency for the individual staff in GEC along with Chief and administrative team of GEC. Assists in arranging and facilitating peer mentorship if needed.
    • Woks in conjunction with HR, EEO and ER/LR to help facilitate needs of GEC staff.
    • Along with administrative staff and Chief directs staff, budging and tracking of GEC programs.
    • Ensures all Focused Professional Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Profession Practice Evaluation (OPPE) are completed in a timely fashion by direct supervisor or peer assigned. Assists in arranging and facilitating peer mentorship if needed.
    • Serves as a liaison between GEC Chief and RHJ Leadership to GEC staff.
    • Ensures that annual proficiency, ECF, performance measures and appraisals are completed with staff and their supervisor in a timely fashion.
    • Works with clinical/direct supervisor on issues related to performance, practice, competence, etc. of an individual staff-in conjunction with GEC Chief.
    • Ensures the Medical Center Bylaws are reflective of current laws and State regulations pertaining to the provider practice changes as they occur.
    • Facilitates collaboration between the facility and academic affiliate(s). Works with facility education as a liaison for GEC education and encourages preceptorship and academic appointments for GEC staff when available.
    • Provides leadership in determining allocation of resources (financial, human, material, educational, and/or informational) based on patient care systems that promote the professional development of staff.
    • Incorporates ICARE (integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence) Core Values in all aspects APRN practice.
    • Interprets and enforces Human Resource policies and directives to ensure proper hiring practices are followed for clinical staff in collaboration with GEC Chief.
    • Other duties as assigned.
