    DISTRICT SUPERVISOR
    SPECIALIZED INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT
    (12 Month Position)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Assists in providing leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of specialized services, in conformance with federal and state standards.
    • Visits schools on a regular basis to engage in supervisory and administrative activities to promote the educational development of each special needs student, the professional growth of district/school staff and ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and guidelines.
    • May be designated to serve as the district's designee Planning and Placement (PPT) chairperson in the preparation of all necessary records, agendas, schedules and reports in order to convene a PPT whereby a student requires out of district placement.
    • Communicates with all stakeholders and agencies including the Department of Children and Families (DCF), Department of Developmental Services, Surrogate Parents, Guardians and private school staff in order to coordinate the PPT process.
    • Reviews all records for students in out-of-district placements either by Bridgeport Public Schools for education reasons or by a state agency for non-educational reasons for designated areas.
    • Visits out-of-district residential and day placements and secures information regarding attendance patterns, suspensions and programs.
    • Directs and monitors the Planning and Placement Team process.
    • Assists in development of procedures for the implementation of special education laws and regulations.
    • Assists in overseeing compliance review process.
    • Participates in Planning and Placement Team meetings on all levels
    • Assists with CSDE complaint/mediation/due process.
    • Recommend and implement the district's policies and procedures for delivery of special services
    • Assists in managing special services administrative functions to assist principals to maintain safe and efficient school operations with district guidelines
    • Coordinates with the Central Office staff to design and implement a staff development program for educators of students with special needs, encompassing an annual needs assessment and the arranging of in-service activities
    • Prepares various written documents (e.g. correspondence, reports, analyses, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information as required
    • Represents the district at local, county, and state levels in matters related to special services
    • Represents the district within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment
    • Participates in administrative meetings and other such meetings, as required or appropriate
    • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information
    • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Specialized Instruction and/or the Superintendent.
    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Connecticut certification as Intermediate Administrator (092)
    • Certification required in Special Education (065, 165)
    • Five or more years of successful teaching experience in Special Education
    • Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations pertaining to Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services
    • Demonstrated leadership in improving the planning, organization, and delivery of specialized educational services to students, including a record of excellence in planning and implementing student assessment strategies, interventions, and professional development
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and research in the areas of specialized services
    • Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and to meet deadlines
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with teachers, administrators, parents, and community groups
    • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology for communication, reports, and research
    This is a Group III position as defined by the current BCAS Agreement.
    Salary range is in accordance with the BCAS Agreement.
