- Develops and administers investigative plans in defending cases through all phases alongside the defense team attorneys
- Plans, organizes, and conducts complex investigations for defense cases
- Coordinates with law enforcement agencies and the prosecution for evidence review
- Locates and interviews witnesses and law enforcement personnel
- Presents investigative findings both orally and in writing
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Completion of a probationary/trial period may be necessary
- Must obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET Clearance with access to Special Compartmentalized Information
- Occasional travel and non-traditional work hours may be required
- Employment of retired Federal employees is subject to specific policies
- Special priority selection may apply to displaced Federal Civil Service employees
- Disclosure of past political appointments is required
- Active duty service members may be considered veterans for Federal jobs

Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants need one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, such as assisting with interviewing witnesses and preparing reports.
To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants need one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level, including analyzing defense cases and preparing reports.
Experience, including volunteer work, is considered in qualifications determinations.
Education: Education cannot substitute for experience.
