    is searching for an

    Engineering Manager

    who is great at creating, scaling and maintaining a high performing team. Your role will include hiring, setting goals, defining tactics, and being responsible for driving execution.

    As you will be joining what will initially be a small team composed of 1 other engineer, 1 product manager, and 1 designer, you will be expected to be a primary code contributor.

    As you grow the team to include 2 more engineers, your focus will shift to also include supporting and growing the other engineers, while ensuring the team is operating effectively.

    We are looking for someone with experience growing users of websites with the ultimate goal of driving Changes key metrics: petition creation and petition effectiveness.

    Management:
    Hire quality engineering talent

    Coach, mentor and grow engineers

    Define team organization

    Foster a high performance and impact oriented culture while keeping a sustainable pace and high team morale


    Technical skills:
    Full stack, with experience building backend at scale

    Comfort and confidence with different technologies, languages and frameworks in all layers of the webstack, from frontend to backend with an emphasis on Ruby on Rails, Nodejs, React, Javascript, Typescript, GraphQL.


    Experience building APIs that serve data from backend services to the frontend.

    Extensive experience using SQL-style databases. Able to define and adjust data schemas.

    Work effectively at scale


    Setting Goals, Planning & Execution:
    Collaborate with product and design colleagues to define quarterly objectives and discover tactics that leads the team to achieving its goals

    Scope projects and deconstruct into a well-defined action plan with timelines.

    Be responsible for execution and timelines.

    Deliver user-facing software iteratively: by first building an MVP, and only scaling once we validate using experimentation and user data

    Manage own priorities and make appropriate progress with minimal supervision.


    Architecture & Design, Performance:
    Familiarity with instrumentation and experimentation, deep system understanding

    Be a driver for system quality

    Influence architectural decisions in a collaborative environment.

    Obsessed with improving page speed and performance.


    Analytics:
    Experience with various web analytics measurement methodologies and measurement platforms (Google Analytics, Search Console, SEO tools)

    Use data to identify opportunities, set priorities and make decisions.


    Communication & Collaboration :
    Communicate early and often, sharing ideas, analysis, and information in a direct verbal and written manner.

    Partner and collaborate effectively across functions such as product, design, devops, QA, and analytics.

    Collaborate successfully in a remote setting with colleagues located in different timezones.


    Additional capabilities well consider:
    Experience with SEO. Knowledge of common SEO factors and strategies that drive organic traffic to a website.

    Experience in digital marketing areas such as: email, search engine (SEM), social media, brand.

    Experience working in Elixir.

    Experience with AWS.

    Experience with redis and other noSQL databases.

    Target experience:

    3 years of direct management experience

    5-8 years of experience in backend technologies like Ruby on Rails/NodeJS/Elixir.

    3 years of experience with frontend web service development.

    3 years of experience in frontend technologies like React/JavaScript/TypeScript.

    2 years minimum experience in growing traffic to websites.

    30 minute screen with a Recruiter

    1 hour interview with our Director of Engineering

    2 hour virtual onsite interview with a Staff Software Engineer and a Senior Engineering Manager which will include an hour of live coding

    45 minute interview with Product Manager
