    As the IWS Combat Systems Chief Engineer (Level II), you will...

    • Provide Air and Missile Defense (AMD) Program and Sector leadership with thought leadership and insight into IWS Combat Systems, present and future, and their integration into assorted platforms.
    • In concert and concurrence with the APL Assistant Program Area Manager (APAM), establish relationships and interact with Industry, Navy Program Office Chief Engineers and technical leaders, the broader Navy community (including PEO C4I / Project Overmatch and OPNAV), and Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
    • Leverage these relationships and insights to provide leadership for APL system-of-systems engineering, integration, analysis, and test efforts across the scope of IWS Combat Systems to support APL's role as Enterprise Technical Direction Agent (TDA) within PEO IWS, as well as long standing TDA roles for specific Combat Systems Programs such as Aegis, CEC, and Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS).
    • Engage with science and technology organizations to help provide technical guidance for investments and maturation of concepts towards future transition and integration into Navy Combat Systems and platforms.
    • Leverage your leadership and visionary skills to collaborate across IWS Combat Systems programs and related programs in other AMD Program Areas and APL Mission Areas to help define and execute the strategy for force-level combat system capability, and alignment with the U.S. Navy's near-term and long-term vision for the future Integrated Combat System (ICS).
    • Participate in the Air and Missile Defense Sector (AMDS) Chief Engineer forum and Sector efforts to identify, develop, and transition architecture concepts and technological innovations to address Sector Grand Challenges and Critical Missions.
    Qualifications

    You meet our minimum qualifications if you have...

    • A BS in engineering, math, science, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience in a relevant technical discipline.
    • At least 10 years of experience working with Navy combat systems and complex system-of-systems design and integration efforts. Technical and program knowledge of IWS Combat Systems and associated elements, including experience with ship integration and shipboard operations.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and a self-starter; ability and willingness to interact with sponsors, prime contractors, warfighters and APL leadership.
    • Demonstrated ability to promote an environment of excitement, collaboration, creativity, trust, openness, and inclusion. Encourage ideas and debates that challenge the status quo.
    • A proven background in maximizing lessons learned and sharing successes and failures.
    • Demonstrated ability in effectively working with senior DoD and/or U.S. Government sponsors and stakeholders at all levels with specific experience with Navy sponsors.
    • Demonstrated success in conducting & managing complex tasks that involve multiple contributors; Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Highly organized and process-oriented; demonstrated capability to independently analyze, summarize and make recommendations on process, procedures, and technical activities.
    • Are willing and able to have flexible hours to meet program requirements. Occasional early or extended days to support meetings or real-time program activities. Occasional travel to Sponsor offices and technical meeting sites.
    • Hold an active Top Secret clearance with previous experience working in a classified program environment, and ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • MS/PhD in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science or national security-related discipline.
    • At least 15 years of broad experience working with Navy combat systems and/or complex system-of-systems design and integration efforts associated with real-world operations.
    • Experience working directly with government program offices and senior Navy leadership (07 and above).
    • Experience with U.S. Navy missile defense programs, combat systems, communications, and weapon systems, with significant experience interacting with warfighters.
