Sr. Director of CHP Engineering & Systems Integration

My client is a well-funded start-up with existing contracts. Their continued success has created a need for a Sr. Director of Engineering & Systems Integrationlocated in Clinton Township, MI . This position will be responsible for overseeing the development and deployment of residential, commercial and institutional Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Systems based on advanced engine technologies suitable to be incorporated into microgrid solutions. You will lead a team of engineering professionals and technologists to drive innovation, quality, and efficiency in product development and commercialization. Your expertise in CHP systems will be essential in delivering sustainable, high-performing energy solutions to our customers. Your knowledge of engine development in the context of CHP, GHP or other small engine driven gas appliance applications is essential. An understanding of the requirements to connect into islanded or integrated Micro-Grids will be a Plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering team ensuring alignment with the company's vision and goals. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results-oriented work environment.

Product Development: Oversee the design, development and commercialization of CHP systems, engines, and microgrid applications of these CHP systems. Drive innovation and continuous improvement in product performance and efficiency.

Project Management: Lead engineering projects from concept to launch, managing timelines, budgets, and resources effectively. Implement Agile and Waterfall methodologies as appropriate.

Quality & Compliance: Ensure products meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, including EPA, UL and other relevant certifications. Implement quality assurance processes to maintain high product quality.

Microgrid Applications: Develop and optimize microgrid applications which incorporate our CHP products as well as renewables and storage solutions, to enhance energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate microgrids into CHP systems.

Engine Development: Oversee the development of advanced engine technologies, focusing on fuel efficiency, emissions reduction, and performance. Lead research and testing efforts to drive innovation in engine design.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including R&D, Government, Industry Associations, Marketing, Sales teams and relevant business partners to ensure alignment of product development with market needs and customer expectations.

Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement and Lean practices within the engineering team. Identify and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Qualifications:

US Citizen or permanent resident.

Bachelor's degree in engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred.

10 years of progressive experience in Product Development, with a focus on CHP systems, engine development, and microgrid applications.

Proven technical experience with a company active in the CHP space, preferably with smaller scale systems.

Proven track record in managing engineering projects from concept to commercialization utilizing project management methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
