    National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) is the national source for air, space, and cyberspace intelligence. By working with us, you'll help discover and characterize the capabilities, limitations, and vulnerabilities of our nation's enemies. As a NASIC employee, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of experts, working together to solve technical challenges.

    This position is within the Geospatial Intelligence Research and Development Flight, GSIR, WPAFB OH.

    You must be a US citizen to be eligible for a position at NASIC, and you must be able/willing to obtain/maintain a Top Secret security clearance. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed upon hire.

    Responsibilities

    • Acts as the principal technical analyst for Advanced Geospatial Intelligence (AGI) discipline within the Research and Development Flight.
    • Manages and performs a broad range of science, engineering and/or mathematic assignments entailing unique problems, creativity, innovative use of techniques, advanced approaches, and/or new technology.
    • Applies principles and theories of mathematics, physics, and chemistry towards the development of tools and methods used to produce AGI.
    • Mentor and guide efforts of more junior researchers within the flight
    • Represents NASIC while visiting contractor facilities and other government installations to represent NASIC at national-level meetings and conferences.
    • Develops data analysis techniques and methodology, new tools and algorithms required to address current limitations in the analysis of analytical problems.
    • Serves as expert analyst responsible for developing and maintaining a thorough knowledge of an interaction with all relevant NASIC, Air Force, and IC mission partners.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be able to meet OPM qualification standards for the 1301 General Physical Science Series:
    • A master's degree in physics, engineering, or mathematics or a closely related scientific field or its equivalent is highly desirable; a doctoral degree is highly desirable.
    • Five years of experience in a wide range of skills related to collection, processing, and exploitation of spectral and radiometric data is desired.
    • Professional knowledge and mastery of a broad range of physics, mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific concepts, principles, standards, methods, techniques, practices, and procedures.
    • Knowledge of one or more of the specialized areas of physical sciences sufficient to apply new analytical developments, methodologies, and research findings to broad studies of an unprecedented nature.
    • Skill in applying analytical and evaluation techniques to identify, investigate, resolve complex issues or problems, and modify standard practices and techniques to solve complex interrelated problems.
    • Skill, judgment, resourcefulness, originality, and ability to foresee the impact of changing technology
    • Advanced ability to evaluate highly complex scientific information in relation to scientific theory and observed results, and to apply sound scientific judgment in addressing unprecedented situations
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, or order to product highly technical reports, position papers, and briefings, resolve conflicts based on mature judgment and experience, effectively negotiate complex issues, and maintain good working relationships.

    All new DCIPS employees are required to complete a two-year DCIPS trial period.

    Position is designated special-sensitive and incumbent must be able to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.

    PCS expenses are NOT authorized IAW JTR and Air Force Regulations

    Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal and Regulatory Guide

    Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic drug testing.

    Shift work and emergency overtime may be required

    Employee must maintain current certifications

    The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.

    The work is primarily sedentary. Items carried typically include briefcases, notebooks, working papers, references, data print outs, and suitcases. A moderate amount of standing and walking is required in getting to and from meetings and

    The workspace is adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated. There is occasional noise from office equipment, such as printers, fax machines, and telephones. The employee is required to perform in varying office and meeting environments.

    The incumbent observes normal safety precautions when working in and travelling away from the work site.

    This position is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel Systems (DCIPS) position. Work Category is Professional and Work Level is Senior.
