    Position Overview

    The Social Worker serves as an integral part of the school community, providing essential support and services to students, families, and staff. This position focuses on addressing the social, emotional, and behavioral challenges that students may face, thereby promoting academic success and holistic well being. The Social Worker through the funding of the IDEA (Individual Disability Education Act) Coordinated Early Intervening Services will service students in the kindergarten through 12th grade who are not currently identified as needing special education or related services, but who need additional support to succeed in a general education environment. The goal for this position is to support the School District of University City in reducing disproportionality in areas of discipline and disability diagnosis.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • Master's degree in social work preferred
    • Experience in in child mental health and individual/group counseling with children preferred
    Certificated, Licenses, Registrations
    • Licensed Master Social Worker preferred
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Maintain a caseload of students grades K-12 in need of mental/social/behavioral health support across multiple schools
    • Monitor and respond to student referrals within a timely manner
    • Collaborate with other support professionals (school social worker, school counselor, school psychologists, well-being specialists, special education Staff, community supports, etc.) to provide wrap-around services to students
    • Help parents understand and meet their children's social and emotional needs
    • Provide any professional development and in-services to school team members in SEL support and learning for students and staff.
    • Collect data on students in a variety of settings to make informed decisions regarding support
    • Keep records of services and activities within the district managed record keeping system; records student interventions in a confidential and professional manner.
    • Develop and implement evidence-based interventions for students based on their unique needs
    • Work in partnership with school staff and administrators to implement interventions holistically
    • Provide individual and group counseling to students
    • Monitor student progress utilizing school-approved software
    • Document services
    • Provide crisis intervention to students in need
    • Support individual students and whole classrooms post-crisis utilizing restorative practices
    • Support families in identifying and reducing barriers that may be impacting their student's mental/social/behavioral health
    • Provide professional education on topics pertaining to mental/social/behavioral health to staff in small group and large group formats
    • Participate in any internal teams that impact student well-being
    • Provide yearly data on caseload as identified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
    • Maintain state licensure by meeting guidelines as outlined by the State of Missouri

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one and before groups
    • Ability to collect and graph skill programming and behavior data, add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.
    • Ability to problem-solve and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral diagram form.
    • Ability to interact with district data systems.
    Physical Requirements
    • While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. The position requires the ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Additionally, the employee must be physically able to to implement all Board of Education Policies, District procedures, and to perform Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training and techniques. The employee must be physically able to react and intervene quickly during crisis situations, such as but not limited to the following circumstances: student elopement, physical altercations involving students, or any situation that requires physical intervention to maintain student safety. Yearly NCI training with participation in physical intervention strategies is a requirement for the job.
    Environmental Requirements
    • The work environment associated with this position is typical for a school building. The work is primarily completed indoors with occasional outdoor activities. This position may require travel between school buildings and districts. Frequent work interruptions are expected.
