    Activ Uniform Allowance General Purpose:

    Under indirect supervision, provides direct resident care to individuals with physical disabilities and/or functional limitations in clinic, in-patient, outpatient, and outreach programs.

    Plans therapy programs, directs and assists residents in exercises and use of wheelchairs and other devices, and evaluates resident progress.

    Educates residents and families in appropriate physical therapy methods. Leads the work of and serves as a resource for other therapists.


    Essential Job Functions:

    Plans therapy program for neuromusculoskeletal residents, as prescribed by physician, including posture, gait, range of motion, muscle testing, sensory testing, specific extremity and spinal segmental motion, biomechanical analysis of functional activities, orthotic analysis (if trained), ergonomic analysis, and other relevant assessmentsAdministers appropriate physical agents given physicians' protocols, residents' medical histories, and therapist's knowledge of indications and contra-indications, including electrotherapy, sound energy, heat/cold therapy, hydrotherapy, and JOBST compressionDirects and aids resident in active and passive exercises, muscle reeducation, and gait and functional training, utilizing pulleys and weights, steps, and inclined surfacesPerforms manual therapy techniques, including soft tissue mobilization, extremity and joint mobilization, medical exercise therapy, myofascial release, and craniosacral therapyPerforms therapeutic exercise, with and without equipmentPerforms administrative duties including: documentation of resident visits, daily, monthly and yearly statistics; short- and long-term goals of department; equipment maintenance, repair and new purchases; coordination with pharmacy for resale purchasesAdapts conventional physical therapy techniques to meet the needs of residents unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regime of therapeutic exercises; educates parents and family membersEvaluates, records, and reports on residents' progress for review by other members of the rehabilitative teamShares new information with staff on treatment techniques through in-service teaching and timely verbal communicationPerforms miscellaneous job-related duties as assignedAttend in-service education programs in order to meet facility educational requirementsBe familiar with Universal Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Fire Drill and Evacuation Procedures and know how to use the informationMaintain confidentiality of resident and facility records/informationProtect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuseProtect the personal property of the residents of the facilityOthers as directed by the supervisor or administrator

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelors of Science Degree in Physical TherapyCurrent license in state of practiceMinimum of one year of experience.

    Supervision, training and/or experience in a setting serving the same age/type of resident population served by this facilityCertification, if applicable, and demonstrated competency in identified areas of specializationOrganized and detailed in work performanceGood communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patienceGenuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facilityComply with the Residents' Rights and Facility Policies and ProceduresPerform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined belowPerform Essential Duties as outlined above.
