    UPMC Harrisburg is hiring a full-time Echo Sonographer to join our team We are currently offering a Sign-On Bonus for Echo Techs:

    $20,000 for a three-year commitment or a $10,000 sign on bonus for a two-year commitment.


    Oversee the technical and accreditation aspects of echo department, develop the call schedule, develop new protocols and scanning techniques, and works with Cardiologists on scanning protocols and technical issues.

    Serve as point person for the echoing modality.

    This position works days with on call and weekend rotation.


    Responsibilities:


    Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and materials for the timely operation of the Echocardiography Laboratory with appropriate ordering and storage of above supplies and materials.

    Oversee the activities of the staff in the Echocardiography Laboratory.

    Collaborate with the Nurse Clinician to coordinate the patient schedule.

    Attend in-services, conferences, classes, etc. to maintain a state-of-the-art Echocardiography Laboratory.

    Manage the principal operation and maintenance of the Echocardiography Laboratory equipment.

    Maintain equipment, coordinate equipment preventive maintenance and repairs with vendors and Purchasing Services with as little interruption to the Echocardiography Laboratory's operation as possible.

    Assist with contrast, stress and transesophageal echocardiographic procedures.

    Monitor daily patient schedule so that all patients echo exams are completed in a timely manner.

    Review CPR monthly.

    Implement hospital policies and procedures pertaining to all facets of operation of the Echocardiography Laboratory. Make suggestions and/or recommendations in the revision or establishment of existing policies and procedures.


    Accountable for the staff's accurate performance and follow through of echocardiographic examinations in a manner compatible with standard departmental procedure.

    Review the various echo studies with the medical staff, when necessary.

    Provide care to the adult and geriatric patients.


    Supervise the training and in-servicing of all echo techs in the Echocardiography Laboratory including newly hired staff sonographers and student echo techs in the techniques and operation of the Echocardiography Laboratory equipment.

    Perform echocardiograms on inpatients and outpatients.

    Provide a preliminary written analysis to the cardiologist who is reviewing, interpreting and dictating the echocardiograms.

    Maintain aesthetics in all areas of Echocardiography Laboratory.


    Exercise a high degree of judgment concerning the recognition of life-threatening pathology and the reporting of such findings to a physician to facilitate timely medical intervention.

    Monitor all office procedures to assure 24-report generation.

    Monitor all echo studies that are not interpreted in a timely manner and send reminders to the reading echocardiologists.

    Combination of work, supervisory experience and/or education in adult echocardiography, totaling 5 years, is preferred.

    Pediatric Certification is required. Adult Certification is required.


    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    Registered as a specialist in adult echocardiography by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or by Cardiology Credentialing International required.

    Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)

    Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

    Act 33 with renewal

    Act 34 with renewal

    Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
