Job summary
starts operates and knows the parameters of all anesthesia related monitors machines and computers which include electrocardiograph ecg invasive and noninvasive blood pressure body temperature oxygen saturation cardiac output intraaortic balloon pump pulse oximeter transesophageal echocardiography imaging units defibrillator rapid infusers anesthesia gas analyzers fiberoptic scopes autologous blood recovery system activated clotting time machines and pacemakers alerts the physician to abnormal conditions as they arise and prepares for any clinical support required sets up monitoring equipment in the operating room calibrates pressures and recording systems within the patient monitoring system to ensure maintain precise readings troubleshoots equipment malfunctions or failures takes necessary steps to promptly return equipment to a safe reliable operating condition using backup equipment when necessary assists in central venous swan ganz catheter insertion using sterile technique assists in insertion of arterial pressure lines during surgical procedures configures monitors for optimum numerical data waveform interpretation operates ultrasound blood vessel imaging device for line placement assists anesthesiologist with intubations identifies assembles various types of intubation blades fiberoptic bronchoscopes special equipment supplies required difficult intubation keeps anesthesiologist constantly apprised patient s blood pressure oxygen saturation status uses sterile technique inserts indwelling radial brachial arterial catheters upon direction of anesthesiologist draws arterial venous samples diagnostic testing point care analyses accurately transcribes lab results on patient records anticipates when samples will be required based surgery normal progression associated complications alerts physician unexpected abnormal lab values require intervention performs preoperative autologous collection anticoagulant bags postoperative reinfusion pauses terminates at adverse conditions hemodynamic intolerance note suspected operates autotransfusion system intraoperative recovery processing reinfusion determines proper mode operation based procedure complexity case patient s religious beliefs concerning administration checks ventilators proper operating efficiency operates monitor recording systems works tuesday wednesday thursday friday weekend holiday call rotations required mostly set schedule thursdays off but potential flex department needs must be able demonstrate knowledge skills provide appropriate age patients served demonstrate knowledge principles growth development life span possess ability assess data reflective patient status interpret appropriate information needed identify each patient requirements relative his her age specific needs provide care described department policies procedures age specific information developed further job standards
