    Description
    POSITION SUMMARY
    Performs a variety of mechanical repairs on gasoline and diesel-powered automotive and heavy construction equipment.

    The incumbent must work well independently and with teams, providing excellent customer service and human relations skills, supporting the City of Englewood's vision, mission, and values.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    The examples of work may be modified with additions, deletions, or changes as necessary.
    This includes:
    Fleet Mechanic I
    • Provides friendly customer service and advice, including training on mechanical equipment.
    • Road tests, inspects, diagnoses, and troubleshoots automotive and construction equipment.
    • Performs scheduled maintenance and inspections of vehicles.
    • Repairs and replaces brake systems on vehicles.
    • Maintains the fuel island.
    • Handles unit drop-offs and pick-ups to external vendors.
    • Cleans equipment, vehicles, and shop.
    • Assists Fleet Mechanic II in complex repairs.
    • Performs other assigned duties.
    Fleet Mechanic II
    • All duties of Fleet Mechanic I.
    • Performs maintenance on heavy construction equipment, dump trucks, emergency vehicles, and more.
    • Diagnoses and repairs emission-related issues.
    • Troubleshoots and repairs vehicles and equipment on-site.
    • Conducts preventative maintenance on various vehicles and equipment.
    • Repairs steering, suspension, alignment, and more.
    • Diagnoses and repairs various vehicle systems.
    • Installs lighting and equipment on City vehicles.
    • Performs engine repairs and more.
    • Utilizes welding and cutting equipment for repairs.
    • Maintains records in the maintenance system.
    • Available for on-call duties.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    Knowledge
    Working knowledge of electrical systems
    Working knowledge of:
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • Measurement systems
    Skills and Abilities
    Computer Skills - Required for diagnostic equipment.

    Communication - Essential to follow procedures, complete work orders, and communicate effectively.

    Analytical - Critical for diagnosis and repair of vehicle systems.

    Mechanical - Advanced skills for vehicle repair tools.

    Mathematical - Strong skills for readings and measurements.

    Ability to operate test equipment.
    PREPARATION AND TRAINING
    A valid Colorado Driver's License and good driving record;
    Fleet Mechanic I:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • ASE Certifications: T8 preventative maintenance, A5 Brakes, C1 Service Consultant within 18 months.
    • CFC refrigerant recovery license within 6 months.
    • Two years' experience in automotive fleet maintenance or Service Writer field.
    Fleet Mechanic II:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • All Fleet Mechanic I certifications.
    • DOT emissions certification within 6 months.
    • Five years' experience in fleet maintenance.
    • Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License within 12 months.
    Equivalent education, training, and job experience may be considered.
    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Work is performed in the City's garage and occasionally outside with exposure to various conditions.
    • Physical strength required for various tasks.
    • Ability to perform a range of physical movements and tasks.
    HOURLY RATE
    Fleet Mechanic I:$29.62/hour
    Fleet Mechanic II:$33.47/hour
