    Elementary School Counselor: Bledsoe County Schools-Stronger Connections Grant

    Minimum 11 month position

    Requirements:

    1. Current/Valid Tennessee School Counselor License, Master's Degree
    2. Transcript
    3. Acceptable Background Check
    4. Location- Will serve two elementary schools: Mary V. Wheeler and Cecil B. Rigsby

    Purpose of Job:

    To support a comprehensive school counseling program that provides services for all students and provide specialized programs to promote individual development. This includes academic development, social and emotional development, and career readiness. The school counselor provides leadership in developing and coordinating these services and serves as a resource person to the school staff in planning programs to meet the changing needs of students.

    Job Description:

    The school counselor will provide education, prevention, identification of students at risk. The counselor will deliver a comprehensive school counseling program to all students; K-5th grade including small group and individual attention.

    Duties and Responsibilities:


    The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.


    Deliver a comprehensive counseling program in each K-5th grade classroom


    Demonstrates excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.


    Provide small group and/or individual support to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, career, and family concerns


    Work effectively with students, staff, administration and families


    Assist with problem solving teams concerning students at risk for academic failure


    Gatekeeper duties with the school referral pathway (AWARE).

    Consults with students, parents, and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success, academically, socially, and emotionally, in school.

    Develops a variety of special programs and classes for the purpose of providing information to assist students in the successful transition from elementary to middle school or help with life and academic skills.


    Monitors students' progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student success. Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g., lesson plans, quantity reports, student activities, and correspondence) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.


    Reviews a variety of student assessment data to ensure continuous improvement in measurable student performance and achievement.

    Assists in the coordinates and administration of standardized testing as appropriate in accordance with district policies and state law.

    Registers students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the school's varied opportunities for learning.

    Communicates the role of the school counselor and available services to students, parents, and community.

    Works collaboratively with all stakeholders.

    Attends work and arrives to work on time.

    Maintains confidentiality and Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.

    Use computers and other technology to enter and access information related to essential job functions.

    Performs general/clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, typing documents, making copies, sending/receiving faxes, filing documentation, or processing incoming/outgoing mail.

    Provide individual and group counseling to address students' immediate needs and concerns to resolve academic, social and emotional, or college and career issues that are interrupting learning;

    Provide support and assistance to students and school community to navigate critical and emergency situations;

    Make students and families aware of school and community resources that can provide additional information or assistance to help students be successful;

    Share strategies that support student achievement with parents, teachers, other educators, or community organizations through consultation; and

    Collaborate with other educators, parents, and the community to support student achievement and advocate for access and equity for all students through teaming, partnering, participating on school/district committees, and facilitating parent or staff workshops.

    May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities

    Salary is based on experience and degree. Position is funded by the SCG grant. BOE school calendar shall be followed- 11month position.
