    Overview



    GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    Under the direct supervision of the assigned manager, the Undergraduate Intern is responsible for project-based tasks to support a designated department. These tasks may be administrative or research oriented, depending on the department. Assigned projects will require basic analytical and communications skills. For research-based departments, the Undergraduate Intern will be responsible for semi-complex laboratory tasks. Specific job responsibilities will vary by department but may include information gathering data entry, writing, editing and/or laboratory work. This is a temporary, non-benefitted role.





    Responsibilities



    Department of Medicine, UMass Chan Medical School - Communications and Content Management Intern

    This is a 6-week, hybrid internship. Candidates should be currently enrolled in a 4-year, undergraduate baccalaureate program or have graduated within the past year from a baccalaureate program.

    What we do:

    The Communications team in the Department of Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School aims to promote the work of our physicians, scientists, trainees, and staff through various media including departmental newsletters, spotlight stories, websites, and social media. In strategic alignment with the department's mission and core values, our team is responsible for developing and executing internal and external communications that are centered around storytelling to build connections and opportunities for collaboration within the department, interdepartmentally, nationally, and globally.     Internship experience:

    • Assist with Department of Medicine website content review and editing on the Optimizely content management system
    • Assist with Department of Medicine interviews for trainee spotlight stories
    • Attend meetings to understand the workflow of a communications team at the department level




    Qualifications



    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree candidate
    • Related experience preferred
    • Basic analytical and communication skills
    • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
    • Ability to use standard office tools and software (MS-Office)
    • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours

    The communications intern will also have a unique opportunity to work with the Digital and Social Media Manager in the Department of Medicine to identify and execute a customized project (e.g., writing, content management, graphic design, photography, social media) that aligns with their specific career interests.
