    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in related field

    Valid Texas teacher's certificate in related field

    Three years' classroom teaching experience

    Ability to work with school staff and parents

    Experience in working with students with emotional/behavioral problems

    Knowledge of state and federal special education laws

    Knowledge of the Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct

    Knowledge of Manifestation, Determination, Review procedures

    Knowledge of discipline requirements for students with disabilities

    Excellent written and communication skills

    Primary Purpose:

    Provide intervention, consultation, and training school personnel on educational programming and behavioral interventions in meeting the educational needs of students with moderate to severe behavioral challenges.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Model effective teaching strategies with specific Special Education students with behavior disorders to meet the educational needs of the students or problems as specified in individual IEPs.
    2. Demonstrate knowledge of program requirements and research based best practices in area of specialization.
    3. Assist in the mentoring of new teachers responsible for educating students with emotional disturbance and moderate to severe behavior problems in the understanding of teaching strategies, level systems, and the delivery of appropriate academic curriculum.
    4. Provide individual or group parent training sessions as specified in individual's IEPs.
    5. Assist in the development of appropriate instructional materials and resources that are aligned to curriculum standards and student needs as appropriate.
    6. Conduct demonstration lessons for campus-level staff and for purposes of informal evaluation of students.
    7. Serve as primary contact and resource to campuses by modeling effective teaching strategies, developing IEPs (Individual Education Plans), and attending staffing and ARD meetings as appropriate.
    8. Assist in coordinating and implementing extended day/school programs.
    9. Assist teachers and parents in data collection and in the evaluation of student progress.
    10. Promote the inclusion of students with moderate to severe behavior and ensure students are served in their least restrictive environment.
    11. Provide on-going technical assistance in programming and evaluating RISE programs.
    12. Assist teachers in the development and implementation of individual Behavior Intervention Plans.
    13. Provide specific technical assistance and staff development for teachers of RISE programs.
    14. Coordinate and monitor district and campus Texas Behavior Success Initiative (TBSI) training.
    15. Coordinate with LSSPs in planning and programming for identified students.
    16. Coordinate and provide district/campus training including Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
    17. Perform all other specified duties as assigned.
    Equipment Used:

    Interactive white board, computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the assignment. Instructional and productivity software, as required by the assignment.

    Working Conditions:

    Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling and use of prescribed holding techniques, when necessary. Moderate lifting and carrying. Varied stressful interpersonal situations and crisis management. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Moderate lifting and carrying. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. Prolonged use of a computer and repetitive hand motions.
