    Description

    The Director of Innovation, Medical Affairs and Health Economics Outcomes Research (MA HEOR) will lead a team dedicated to the evolution of the MA HEOR business model. This individual will partner with MA&HEOR leaders to bring innovative solutions to ensure the organization achieves its maximal impact of enabling patients to live longer, better quality lives. This individual will be responsible for bringing innovative solutions to evolving external/healthcare landscapes, while also leading the MA HEOR organization through advancement with its internal processes and resourcing approaches. The Director of Innovation's team will partner across all business units to identify opportunities and execute projects to advance ways of working and outcomes. The Director of Innovation will report directly to the VP, Strategy & Innovation, MA HEOR.

  • Builds and leads a team serving as an innovation hub to drive MA HEOR strategic evolution. Inspire a 'fail fast' mindset while constantly communicating best practices and opportunities to scale across the organization.
  • Fosters end-to-end innovation on MA HEOR strategies, with internal focus on process, resourcing, governance, and external focus on the evolving healthcare landscape, evidence generation, launch readiness (not an exhaustive list)
  • Monitor, understand, and prioritize external trends of relevance to the MA HEOR business, and help determine how AbbVie should prepare and/or respond. Identify opportunities and deliver strategic initiatives that will address mission-critical questions and position AbbVie MA HEOR for future success
  • Lead strategic discussions on external trends, competitor strategies and potential disruptors, and translate these to strategic choices
  • Serves as a strategic partner to MA HEOR and other senior cross functional leaders across major transformational initiatives to define objectives, scope, clear deliverables and workstreams, ensuring capable delivery within the team
  • Oversee delivery of individual modules within complex, cross-functional initiatives, including, driving the problem-solving process and supporting research and analytics, and distilling pragmatic recommendations for management consideration
  • Facilitates identification, evaluation, and implementation of novel tools and technologies that can be employed to improve or accelerate internal and external ways of working
  • Leverage sophisticated analytical mindset to identify opportunities and optimize process, governance and procedures to drive measurable impact and elevated business outcomes
  • In collaboration with relevant functions, drives internal and external stakeholder assessments in order to anticipate changes in the external environment (e.g. regulatory trends, changing payer environment), and to understand the patient journey and levers to improve outcomes

  • Bachelors or equivalent degree required. Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, MBA) highly preferred. Minimum Years of Experience – 12+ with Bachelors, 10+ with Masters, 8+ with PhD
  • Research /development, commercial, project management, portfolio management, business development, or related experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry with a track record of expertise in one or more therapeutic or functional areas
  • Recognized team player with proven facilitative leadership skills in a cross-functional global team environment. Proven performance in a matrix environment with ability to influence and align stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to interact externally and internally to support business strategy
  • Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to provide timely and direct feedback and motivate a team behind a common vision
  • Strong analytical skills. Recognized ability to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives to ensure that balanced risk assessments are made
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing organizational change through innovative approaches
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
