    JOB DEFINITION
    Hollister School District is implementing an Extensions program for our students.

    Our goal is to provide an extended learning opportunity for students and a safe environment for students to build deeper, meaningful relationships with their peers, and the community.

    The program will provide academic, physical, and/or enriching social-emotional opportunities, where staff will get the benefit of flexible instruction options.

    Classified Site Lead- Extensions Para Educator is an important position. The Lead - Extensions Para Educator will help each site operate a safe and enriching Extensions program.

    The Lead - Extensions Para Educator is responsible for leading and supporting staff, maintaining program standards, communicating with regular program staff, parents, and others regarding the operation of the Extensions program.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Completion of the 12th grade or the equivalent of a high school education
    • 12 or more units of Education coursework or ECE units preferred
    • 3-5 years' experience working with groups of students; a year of college with course work in Psychology, Child Growth and Development, or Education may be substituted for the one year of experience working with children.
    • 2 or more years of management or equivalent work experience
    • Knowledge of elementary education concepts, child growth and development and child behavior characteristics, instructional materials used at specific grade levels; curriculum content and objectives; application of curriculum and instructional objectives for children; positive student behavior management techniques and strategies; English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar, basic arithmetic concepts, simple record keeping, record management and computer usage
    • Ability to instruct and plan learning activities under the guidance of the Lead Teacher or Certificated Staff; perform simple clerical tasks and operate standard office machines, communicate, understand and carry out oral and written directions
    • Ability to create, maintain and foster positive relationships with children and staff
    • Ability to demonstrate a receptive attitude towards children and staff
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Assist in building excitement for the program.
    • Assist in recruiting and scheduling staff and students for the program.
    • Support staff in planning and preparing engaging program activities.
    • Determine site schedules for the program at your site.
    • Determine the central location (Multi-Purpose Room, lunch tables, etc.) where all students will gather prior to dividing them into groups for instruction. Communicate this location to staff and students PRIOR to the first session.
    • Coordinate with the school principal to ensure access to school, classrooms, and restrooms for the program. Communicate with the site principal about the program as needed, including problem-solving around any issues encountered.
    • Upon your arrival for the program, ensure classrooms and restrooms are unlocked. Custodians will also provide support as needed.
    • Establish a system for staff to communicate with you (office phone, cell, radio, etc.)
    • Meet and greet parents as students enter, be available for questions, help, and support. Follow sign-in procedures as indicated by site and district staff.
    • Plan and prepare activities which relate to and/or extend curriculum activities that occur during the regular school day, including literacy, math, science, social studies, physical education, and enrichment
    • Ensure attendance logs are complete, signed, and turned in immediately following each session.? Get trash cans ready for snack distribution and put them away as indicated by the site custodian.
    • Assist in meal/snack distribution & document food given to students as needed.
    • Provide support to the staff; breaks when necessary.
    • Communicate positively with parents that may show up during the session.
    • Monitor school safety during program hours.
    • Communicate about and supervise students during dismissal. Follow sign-out procedures as indicated by site and district staff. The Lead Para Educator must supervise and stay with students until all have departed safely.
    • Before leaving ensure all facilities are in order, all doors are locked and the alarm is set.
    • Have all pages of the attendance log up to date immediately following the program each day.
    • Communicate with site and district personnel and others regarding the program
    • Other duties as assigned

    Physical Effort/Work Environment:

    • Moderate physical effort which may include frequent standing, walking, lifting, and occasional climbing or stooping; use of medium-weight tools and materials; indoor/outdoor work environment. A pre-placement physical examination may be required.

    Licenses and Certificates:

    • A valid First Aid and CPR certification may be required.

    Equivalency (copy required) Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education or possess an A.A.

    degree, or 48 units; or successfully complete a state mandated test administered by Human Resources. Resume and Letters of Recommendation.


    Under general direction, provide a variety of classroom or one-to-one instructional activities in a general education or special education setting, including preparing educational materials, tutoring, and conducting intensified learning experiences.

    Receive supervision from the school administrator and/or designee within a framework of standard policies and procedures; tutor under guidelines of classroom teacher; assist in the conduct of intensified learning experiences related to students; make routine decisions within the established policies and procedures of the classroom and the district.

    Additional training will be provided.
