- Adheres to and dispenses appropriate methadone dosages, in accordance with clinic procedures and guidelines according to DEA, OASAS, SAMSHA, and DOH regulations.
- Maintains detailed inventory and reporting with computations according to each tour.
- Maintains daily reports for accountability of daily dispensing activities such as calibration, spillage, compliance, and swapping of inventory.
- Prepares and assesses clients at the time of intake, and on an on-going basis if new medical or nursing needs are apparent, communicates to the client's on-site attending medical provider.
- Performs nursing assessment during each medication dispensed for each client to identify alertness and orientation.
- Perform technical skills such as vital signs, phlebotomy, and various lab collection procedures according to CLIA guidelines, during nursing assessments and evaluations for intakes, client visits, and annual evaluations.
- Implement nursing care effectively and with courtesy according to clinic policy and procedures
- Assists physicians and other employees as needed
- Documents pertinent information regarding resident conditions as per policy/procedure
- Maintains accurate documentation of all nursing activities
- Adhere and maintain security of dispensing area and inventory and report any diversion to immediate nursing supervisor.

- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be a graduate of accredited nursing school/program.
- Must possess an active and unrestricted license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in New York State.
- Minimum of three (3) years practical experience in health care facility.
- Knowledge of substance/alcohol dependence/abuse population.
- Computer skills essential as methadone medication is dispensed via computer system
- Must possess current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Must possess current NYS approved Infection Control certification (4.0 hours, valid for 4 years).
- Knowledge of substance/alcohol dependence/use population.
- Must have specific training in chemical use, abuse and dependence specific to the services provided.

Job DescriptionPOSITION OVERVIEW:
Under supervision of the Nurse Manager (RN) and with the collaboration of the program director, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will serve as the Dispensary Nurse and will coordinate the implementations of medication dispensing in the Opioid Treatment Program for clients which can include various assisted treatment medications such as methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone, and naloxone in the OTP dispensing unit. The LPN will practice such skills as vital sign assessment, Tuberculin implanting, and phlebotomy in the program clinic setting. He/she will be required to collaborate with members of the behavioral health and medical team and other leaders in the development, management, and operations of the OTP and will operate under the department philosophy, standards of practice, and policy.
The LPN is responsible for the safe and efficient dispensing of doses of methadone to clients, consistent with the clinic procedures. The nature of this position is fast-paced in high stress situations and conditions.
