    SUMMARY STATEMENT: Under the direction of the Public Services Director, plan and implement a statewide pro bono program to serve those who need civil legal assistance and to provide support for local pro bono programming.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    1. In conjunction with the Public Services Director and Executive Director, develop and communicate a clear vision for the Pro Bono Program. Design and execute goals and strategies to implement the vision. Facilitate Board activity, including support for local circuit pro bona committees.

    2. Developing Partnerships: Building relationships with partner organizations, volunteer groups, and service providers for sourcing pro bono opportunities and mobilizing volunteer resources. Reaching out to potential partners, attend networking events, and negotiate partnership agreements.

    1. Monitoring and Evaluation: Evaluating the impact of pro bono projects for assessing their effectiveness and informing future initiatives. The pro bono manager collects feedback from volunteers, project partners, and beneficiaries, analyzes project outcomes, and identifies lessons learned and best practices to inform program improvement.

    2. Recognition and Appreciation: Recognizing and appreciating the contributions of volunteers to foster their continued engagement and commitment. The pro bono manager acknowledges volunteers' efforts through thank-you notes, appreciation events, and recognition programs, highlighting their impact on the organization and the community. Coordination with local bars is key to effective recognition and appreciation efforts.

    3. Advocacy and Promotion: Advocates for the value of pro bono service within the organization and the broader community, promoting awareness of the benefits of volunteering and encouraging others to get involved. This may involve sharing success stories, participating in advocacy campaigns, and engaging with media outlets.

    4. Providing Support and Resources serves as a resource for volunteers, providing guidance, information, and assistance throughout the duration of their pro bono engagement. This may include offering technical support, facilitating access to resources, and addressing any challenges or concerns that arise.

    5.     7. Develop and maintain internal records management systems for collecting, retrieving, and evaluating data placements, volunteers, partner agencies, services provided, program.

    8. Coordinate with Access to Justice, Legal Services, and other partners on efficient intake process.

    9. Provide direction and oversight for Pro Bono Program staff.

    10. Coordinate with Young Lawyers Division to assist during natural disasters.

    11. Serve as Administrator of the South Carolina Free Legal Answers.

    12. Serve on the South Carolina Access to Justice Commission.

    13. Plan and implement activities for the ABA celebration of Pro Bono week.

    14. Staff and collaborate with the Legal Aid and Pro Bono Committee.

    15. Administer Palmetto Volunteer Lawyer Project.

    16. Provide input on program budget, including developing alternative revenue streams.

    17. Develop and offer training on mentoring to volunteers.

    18. Develop material to promote the pro bono program to Bar members, recruit volunteers for various pro bono opportunities and recognize volunteer efforts.

    19. Develop and implement alternative, nontraditional methods for volunteers to provide pro bono service which complement direct case representation.

    20. Other duties as assigned.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: J.D.; admitted to practice in South Carolina; minimum of 3 years' experience as practicing attorney, ability to recruit and retain volunteers; ability to represent the Program in high level settings that include judges, legislators, law firm partners, law school faculty and deans, bar and legal association leaders, and the public through direct and mass media communications. Demonstrated management skills over a wide variety of people, projects and resources. Proven collaboration and communication skills for high-profile initiatives involving stakeholders across multiple organizations. Strong organizational, time management, analytical and problem solving, and oral and written communication skills with the ability to advocate persuasively for the Program's mission. Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software products.

    DESIRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in delivering or supporting pro bono legal services and/or recruiting others to deliver or support pro bono legal services with passion for seeking justice for low income and vulnerable populations. Innovative, entrepreneurial leadership experience in developing and implementing new strategies and operations with project management skills. Ability to work well under pressure while meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities. Ability to design systems and to collect and maintain data. Experience with project management software and CRM software systems. Experience in project planning and implementation utilizing multiple teams or organizations. Experience in fund raising.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment and meet with staff. Ability for overnight travel throughout the state and to national conferences and meetings.
