    NGI is engaged in challenging offshore assignments both locally and globally. NGI USA consists of a highly skilled team of engineers, geoscientists, and geotechnical laboratory specialists, working on full-field geohazard assessments, soil characterization and laboratory testing, foundation design for offshore wind turbines, fixed platforms and subsea structures, mooring anchor designs for floating facilities, and pipe/riser/cable-soil interaction. You will be part of an open and inclusive international working environment with talented and supportive colleagues.

    We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer with technical or mechanical background to join our Advanced Testing team in Houston. Do you have an interest in hands-on environments? Can you handle ambiguous situations well, where the best answer may be less obvious? Candidates must be ambitious, eager to learn, and able to contribute positively to our projects and to interact effectively with global teams and clients.

    Work tasks

    • Serve as the technical specialist for the company in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for an assigned area of responsibility.
    • Prepare and provide quality review of cost estimates, proposals, and technical reports.
    • Establish and cultivate client relationships with objective of establishing a growing network and securing repeat business.
    • Maintain effective work relationship with other professionals.
    • Stay abreast of current professional practices and technological advancements, including participation on technical committees in professional organizations and attendance and participation in technical conferences, as well as research, development, and innovation (RD&I).
    • Perform variety of duties related to the testing of soil samples for engineering properties, including all advanced tests such as controlled rate of strain consolidation tests, direct simple shear tests, triaxial testing, etc.
    • Perform basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to Project Manager.
    • Sample preparation, cutting, and extruding core sections, and classifying soil.
    • Assisting with lab equipment maintenance.
    • Observe and follow all company core values, safety rules, and procedures, including continuous improvement of the company's HSE and Quality Management System.
    • Other duties related to operation of the lab as assigned.

    Qualifications & experience

    • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited college or university is required.
    • Strong knowledge of fundamental soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles.
    • Knowledge on advanced laboratory testing programs, interpretation of static and cyclic soil parameters, and experience in their application in design.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant geotechnical engineering programs (e.g. Plaxis, SLOPEW, GRLWEAP, etc).
    • Experience with one or more scientific programming languages (e.g. Python, R, Visual Basic, etc).
    • Highly detail oriented, reliable, and systematic, with ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently and as a team; high level of initiative, flexibility, and enthusiasm, supported with strong communication skills.
    • Must develop a well-rounded knowledge of our lab testing procedures and ASTM Standards followed in our lab.
    • Possess, or ability to obtain, a passport for purposes of domestic and international travel.
