Job Duties

The School of Social Work, Undergraduate BSW Program at Norfolk State University seeks applications for an adjunct pool of Social Work faculty at the rank of Adjunct Instructor to begin on or about January 3, 2024.

Adjunct faculty members have responsibility for teaching undergraduate (BSW) courses in the areas of Field Education, Practice, Human Behavior, Policy and Research.

They are expected to develop and maintain an academic professional course environment that supports the preparation and ethical standards required of generalist social work practitioners.

Adjunct Faculty Members' duties include the following:

Meeting all classes and posting and adhering to office hours.
Preparation of course for syllabi following the University guidelines for syllabi formatting.
Submission of syllabi according to university guidelines and distribution to students via Blackboard or in handout format on the first day of class.
Consistently following the course syllabi in assigned classes.
Developing and assessment o measurable learning outcomes for courses taught ensuring curriculum coherence and alignment.
Promote student development and academic achievement through tutoring, mentoring, referrals, support and engagement in curricular activities and service learning.
Maintain student grade/course records, respecting FERPA and other privacy standards consistent with agency and program accreditation standards.
Participate in curriculum review and revision, program effectiveness, and in monthly faculty meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a Masters of Social Work degree in Social Work and a Social Work license is preferred.
Demonstrated substantive experience in teaching and/or supervising social work practice methods.
Demonstrated knowledge of educational methods and theories.
Skill in the use of technology, software, and resources to assist and aid in the delivery of course content.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and convey matters to large diverse audiences (students/staff/faculty).
Considerable experience, generally equating to more than three years of professional full-time teaching in core curriculum areas in an accredited School of Social Work at the graduate level.
