    Job Title : Mental Health Technician 1 Job Summary :
    • The Mental Health Tech establishes a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients and helps patients with daily living. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment. Takes vital signs, weighs patients and collects routine specimens. Relies on establish guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.
    Experience, Education, Training, Special Skills, and Licensure :
    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • Crisis Intervention Training within 90 days of employment
    • Proficient in the English language, verbal and written communications skills, basic computer skills
    Job Function :
    1. Patient Care
      1. Assists patient with activities of daily living, toileting, feeding, and grooming.
      2. Make beds and clean rooms as necessary.
      3. Takes and records patient vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and respirations under the supervision of a nurse.
      4. Assists with the admission process as directed.
      5. Provide assisting in group setting as necessary under the direction of a nurse or therapist.
      6. Assists in moving patients from place to place on and off the unit or area where assigned.
      7. Assists with laundering of clothes as necessary or directed.
      8. Redirects patients and uses proper technique to prevent patient aggression, falls or injury.
      9. Retrieves medications from the pneumatic tube system and/or pharmacy and delivers the medications to the nurse and/or place medications in a secure location as determined by the nurse manager
    2. Documentation
      1. Documents vital signs, activities of daily living, sleep hours, safety checks and environmental checks as appropriate.
      2. Assists in documentation of group activities under the direction of a licensed professional.
    3. Communication and Collaboration
      1. Notifies nurse, therapist or physician of patient behaviors, needs and safety concerns.
      2. Participates in treatment team process.
      3. Conducts phone calls, takes messages and delivers messages as appropriate.
      4. Orients patient to program.
      5. Interacts with patients on a one on one basis in a therapeutic manner and reports relevant patient information.
    4. Safety
      1. Conducts environmental safety checks and notifies nurse of issues.
      2. Conducts patient safety checks as directed.
      3. Obtain and dispense belongings as appropriate at admission, discharge and throughout stay.
      4. Follows organizational infection control procedures including, but not limited to handwashing and cleaning
      5. Inspects for contraband items as appropriate.
      6. Monitors patients for potential hazards.
