    Road & Rail ServicesAVP of Environmental, Health, & Safety Reports to: President of OperationsWe're seeking a Highly motivated, Experienced, and Detail oriented individual to join our team here at Road & Rail ServicesThis position will be based out of our Corporate office in Louisville, KY with extensive travel required

    Basic purpose of position:

    Provide leadership and management oversight for the Company Safety Department personnel and programs to ensure best in class Safety, Environmental and Compliance.

    The position leads the development and implementation of safety policies, procedures, and hazard control activities.

    You will also provide oversight of risk control programs including state based injury and illness program requirements, and regulatory compliance programs including Federal and State OSHA programs.

    Safety Department personnel under the leadership of the Assistant Vice President of EHS will conduct accident investigation and root cause analysis of safety incidents, monitor the effectiveness of injury and illness prevention programs, and provide direction to operations staff, as appropriate, to ensure effective implementation of site based safety practices.


    Expectation:

    The Assistant Vice President of EHS will lead the organization in fostering safety-first culture and maintaining high standards of safety oriented processes and behaviors.

    Under AVP-EHS leadership, the Safety Department will empower all employees with the training, ability and priority to comply with all safety policies and practices and a willingness to effectively enforce those standards.


    Responsibilities:
    Provides leadership for the effective implementation of the organization's safety management programResearches best practices and emerging developments in the field of environmental, safety & health management and recommends changes to organizational leadersCoordinates professional services and site-based assessments with insurance service providers' safety engineers/risk control professionals as well as independent consultantsTracking and mitigating the organization's total cost of riskImplements and/or maintains applicable risk management program policies, procedures and controlsEnsures the effective and appropriate staffing, coaching, performance and development of Safety Department personnelReviews policies, procedures and programs in connection with the safety program to ensure they are aligned with the corporate safety mission, vision, and valuesProvides oversight to the development of processes that mitigate or eliminate hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee practices through site visits, safety plans and routine safety auditsEnsures safety personnel provides safety education and training to employees, supervisory staff and divisional leadersReinforces safety awareness in a manner which promotes openness and a high level of enthusiasm and morale in the fieldWrites job-specific safety plans, worksite procedures and safety auditsConducts worksite analysis and safety inspections to ensure compliance with organizational safety proceduresReviews documentation to ensure all required onsite records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established proceduresRepresents the organization in health and safety regulatory compliance inspections and in meeting with authorities having jurisdiction on matters of health and safety

    Education Requirements:
    A Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management or related field. Education may be replaced with a minimum of five years relevant job related experience.


    Experience Requirements:
    Should have a minimum of 5 years plus years of progressive experience in Safety Management or Industrial Safety.

    Skills, Licenses, Certification, and/or Special Training:
    OSHA 30 certification preferred.
    Must maintain a valid state driver's license if required to operate company equipment.
