    Summary


    The Albany Stratton VA Medical Center is currently looking for a full-time Dentist. The Dentist position is located in the Dental Service unit.

    Basic Requirements:
    A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry
    The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed

    Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e.

    , Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant
    ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients
    ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia

    Note:
    Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure

    Preferred Experience:
    Dentist must have completed a Dental residency program and must maintain current BLS certification

    Physical Requirements:
    Physical activity includes sitting, standing (up to 2 hours), walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending
    Incumbent should be emotionally and mentally stable and capable to perform the duties of the position.

    Duties

    "The Dentist shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services.

    Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following: Diagnose maI-occlusions, and pathological or irregular conditions and ensure proper referral of patients for evaluation or specialty care Perform services including but not limited to cavity fillings; crowns, dentures, implants, teeth extractions, and root canals Reading and interpreting dental radiographs and digital scans Prescribe medication Provide all appropriate dental disease prevention measures for each patient treated Diagnose pathology related to the oral cavity, teeth and occlusal disorders.

    Accomplish routine and complex restoration of teeth Ensure appropriate medical records are maintained and updated in a timely manner Assists in the educational development of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (PGY1-2) program by developing seminars and training residents in the dental clinic Administer local anesthesia Performance of nonsurgical and surgical procedures for patients presenting with clinical conditions associated with disease conditions affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

    This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.

    You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

    Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
