We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for our First Quality located in McElhattan, PA.

    This position is responsible for improving Process Capability (CpK), Production Line OEE, direct labor utilization, and overall cost reduction through designing and implementing equipment improvements. Will have direct link to Value Stream results by mechanically designing and improving production machinery that is used throughout the manufacturing process. Individual will utilize skills in Design and Continuous Improvement to drive positive machine changes.

    Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

    • Improves Process Capability (CpK), production line OEE, direct labor utilization, and overall cost reduction through equipment improvements.
    • Uses general manufacturing experience and equipment/process knowledge to create machine designs and improvements to solve problems and support Production, Maintenance, and Engineering improvement projects.
    • Oversees outside and internal fabrications and final installations to ensure desired result is achieved.
    • Works with Project Engineering and Process Engineering to prepare designs and CAD documentation used for machine changes.
    • Works with CAD / Design personnel, maintains and improves drawing control and management system to protect company intellectual property.
    • Demonstrates a sense of urgency with peers and operations personnel to maintain focused actions.
    • Drives to get a clear understanding on issues and collaborates cross functionally to define timelines to meet business needs.
    • Utilizes the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as required to review assigned work orders and provide updates used to communicate project status.
    • Oversees internal machine upgrades, outside fabrications and/or final installations to ensure desired result is achieved. May require direct contact with OEMs to define improvement requirements.
    • Assists with trouble shooting of all machinery, equipment, and components as needed.
    • Drives a zero-loss time mentality with team through continuous improvement practices. Keeping safety as the first priority when making decisions.
    • Provide direction and assistance as necessary for off shift/afterhours support.
    • Works side by side with Controls and Electrical Engineers to develop holistic machine improvements and designs as part of the Machine Technology Engineering Group.
    • Communicates and participates daily as part of a Value Stream Team.
    • Collaborates with Maintenance, Process Engineering, Project Engineering, and Operations to define design requirements, design improvements, and install machinery and upgrades.
    • Verifies communication of machine and process changes to all affected team members
    • Supports the support teams with all key initiatives, special projects and provides exceptional customer service.
    • Participates, facilitates, and leads communication in group settings and/or meetings.

    Qualifications/ education and experience requirements:

    • 4 -year Bachelor's Degree in the following disciplines: Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
    • Formal 2-D and 3-D CAD training with knowledge of machining, fabrication, and assembly procedures.
    • Minimum of five years' experience in Machine Design, Automation Design, or Manufacturing Engineering
    • Prior experience and familiarity with electrical and/or electromechanical components preferred.
    • Knowledge of Mechanical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic, and Electrical systems
    • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt (preferred)
    • Root Cause Analysis Experience (preferred)
    • Working knowledge of Functional Machine Safety and proper safe machine design through Safety Risk Assessment.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, computer skills, reasoning, and mathematical skills
    • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
    • Strong experience with Microsoft Office (specifically Outlook & Excel)
    • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
