    Description
    The Patient Care Supervisor is accountable and responsible during a scheduled shift for managing and guiding the activities of the hospital including, but not limited to, the staff, environment, and patients. Must be able to clinically participate in all components of the nursing process.

    Peformance Expectations:
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
    • Provides leadership and serves as a role model for staff.
    • Performs unit and patient rounds on a continuous basis.
    • Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate changes in policy and procedures and other appropriate communication to staff.
    • Demonstrates ability to participate in department planning, decision making and policy formation
    • Demonstrates ability to hold staff accountable to organization mission and vision.
    • Demonstrate critical thinking skills and uses professional judgement to respond promptly with intervention when clinical changes occur and prevention of complications in patient in need of cardiac monitoring, stroke care, and medical-surgical care.
    • Maintains own clinical skills, ongoing competencies, equipment and certifications required in specific nursing area, including EKG rhythm identification, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardia Life Support (ACLS) certification.
    • Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills required for each unit's population rendering professional nursing care including administering medication, starting IVs, venipuncture, restraint application and can perform both complex and routine treatments as ordered by physician.
    • Consistently follws patient care and FGH policy, procedures, and standards of care in preforming nursing duties and adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization i.e. customer service, safety, infection control and compliance standards.
    Education/Skills: Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing required.

    Work Experience: Two to five years general nursing experience with demonstrated leadership required.

    Certification/Licensure: Current registered nurse license to practice in the State of Mississippi required. BLS certification and NIHSS certification required by the end of the orientation period. BLS to be renewed every 2 years and NIHSS certification to be renewed annually. EKG interpretation class and ACLS required within 6 months of employement. All certifications are to be maintained.
