    Summary:


    The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is currently accepting new applications for an Electrical Foreman to plan, supervise, and perform electrical and electronics work.

    This announcement will be used for the South Boise Complex to include Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC), Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI), South Boise Women's Correctional Center (SBWCC), South Idaho Correctional Institution (SICI) including the Pre-Release Center, Idaho Maximum Security Institution (IMSI), and Mountain View Transformation Center (MVTC).

    This is a working electrical foreman position and subject to after hours and weekend call-backs.


    Responsibilities:

    • Plans, supervises, and performs cost estimates, installation, and inspection of electrical systems and service work in new and remodeled facilities.
    • Installs, repairs, and maintains conduit, switches, compressor units, and other electrical accessories on heating, cooling, and refrigeration units.
    • Repairs electrical motors and ensures proper operation of high-voltage generators and transformers used to backup primary systems.
    • Installs and repairs complex electronic devices, control panels, relays, and communications equipment.
    • Repairs speakers, amplifiers, bull horns, fire control monitors, and similar equipment.
    • Provides input for budgets, cost projections, and program objectives.
    • Writes electrical and contract specifications Issues and evaluates bids from private contractors.
    • Recommends and coordinates bid selections and writes purchase requests Interprets and draws blueprints.
    • Orders and maintains a supply of electrical parts.
    • Assigns work to inmate workers and apprentices and evaluates their performance.
    • Trains apprentices to obtain their journeyman electrician's license.
    • Prepares work and training reports.
    • Maintains custody of assigned inmates.
    • Conducts searches for weapons, tools, and contraband.
    • May testify at hearings concerning inmate status and performance.
    • Evaluates facility electrical procedures to protect and maintain state property.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Licensed as a journeyman electrician in accordance with Title 54, Chapter 10, Idaho Code.
    • Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained by completion of a class or seminar (of more than 1 day) specifically covering supervisory practices; OR completion of a college course covering supervisory practices; OR leadwork experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff (such experience on a fill-in basis is non-qualifying unless for a minimum of 3 months).
    • Good knowledge of electrical safety practices. Typically gained from experience where the use of electrical safety practices was required. Such as working for a residential contractor pulling wires and running conduit, etc. OR vo-tech course covering electrical safety practices.
    • Experience planning, installing, and maintaining commercial electrical work relating to building construction and equipment repair; operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical motors up to 500 horsepower; interpreting commercial electrical construction blueprints. Typically gained from at least 2 years work experience at a commercial journey level in a commercial or industrial setting.
    • Using electrical metering and motor testing equipment at least 2 years work experience in commercial journey level.
    • Installing and maintaining commercial electrical control panels and relays with integrated circuitry, and alarm and detection devices for high and low voltage equipment; developing material and equipment cost estimates for electrical projects; and evaluating electrical specifications and performance criteria. Typically gained from at least 2 years work experience at a commercial journey level in a commercial or industrial setting.
    • Willing to work non-traditional hours at a correctional facility while maintaining custody of assigned inmate workers.
