    Position Title:
    Electrophysiology (EP)

    Lab TechniciannnJob Overview:

    An Electrophysiology (EP) Lab Technician is responsible for assisting physicians and healthcare teams in diagnosing and treating patients with heart rhythm disorders by conducting tests and procedures within the electrophysiology lab.

    EP Lab Techs work closely with electrophysiologists and cardiologists to monitor patients during cardiac procedures, including catheter ablations, electrophysiology studies, and device implants.


    nnKey Responsibilities:

    nnPrepare and Maintain Equipment:
    Ensure all electrophysiology equipment is in proper working order before and after procedures, including setting up, testing, and troubleshooting the equipment

    nnPatient Preparation:
    Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, setting up monitoring devices, and ensuring patient comfort and safety

    nnAssist During Procedures:
    Support the physician during electrophysiology studies, catheter ablations, and device implantation by monitoring patient vital signs, assisting in the placement of catheters, and handling other procedural instruments

    nnRecord and Analyze Data:
    Monitor and record patient data, including heart rhythm, electrocardiograms (ECGs), and other important metrics during procedures. Analyze results to provide insights to the medical team.


    nnSterilization and Cleanliness:
    Ensure the EP lab is sterile, clean, and organized, following infection control protocols

    nnEmergency Response:
    Be prepared to respond in the case of complications during the procedure, including notifying the physician or emergency medical staff if necessary

    nnPost-Procedure Care:
    Assist with post-procedure patient care, including transferring patients to recovery and monitoring their condition after the procedure

    nnDocumentation:
    Complete accurate patient records and maintain confidentiality in compliance with healthcare regulations (HIPAA)

    nnQuality Control:
    Participate in the ongoing quality control and safety audits of the EP lab and equipment to ensure optimal performance

    nnCommon Skills and Qualifications:


    nnProficient in the operation of electrophysiology equipment (e.g., electrocardiographs, fluoroscopes, defibrillators).nnStrong knowledge of anatomy, cardiology, and electrophysiology procedures.nnAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.nnGood communication skills to interact with patients, physicians, and other healthcare team members.nnStrong attention to detail for data recording and monitoring patient conditions.nnAbility to respond to medical emergencies and assist with troubleshooting equipment.


    nnEducational Requirements:


    nnAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.nnCompletion of an accredited program in Electrophysiology or Cardiovascular Technology is preferred.

    nnCertification and Licensing Requirements by StatenStates That Require Certification or Licensing:

    nnCalifornia:
    Requires EP Lab Technicians to be licensed through the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or by obtaining national certification through the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

    nnFlorida:
    Requires certification through CCI or ARRT to practice as an EP Lab Technician

    nnTexas:
    While licensure is not mandatory, many hospitals require EP Techs to hold certification through CCI or ARRT

    nnNew York:
    Licensure is required for technologists working in EP labs. They must have certification from CCI, ARRT, or a similar recognized organization.


    nnPennsylvania:
    Certification is often required for EP lab technicians through CCI or ARRT
