Part-time appointment to teach at the Federal Prison in Beaumont. The successful applicant must be capable of meeting clearance requirements of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The part-time Instructional Staff I reports directly to the Director of Correctional Education. The primary duties of this position are classroom teaching and lab instruction in the federal prison system. Duties include curriculum development and classroom instruction. This position is security sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Must receive and maintain security clearance for the prison system. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following.

Graduation from an accredited two year college or university with an Associate of Applied Science or five to ten years industry experience and teaching experience is preferred.

Classes are taught within prison system. There are nominal risks associated with working in a prison environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and see. The employee is occasionally required to sit, lift, push, pull and carry objects up to 40 pounds. The operation of welding equipment is required.

1.Responsible for teaching the fundamental principals of welding. Both arc and oxygen/acetylene procedures for the course.

Maintain current knowledge and expertise in the subject area of teaching responsibility.

2.Prepares classroom quality lessons aligned with standards while working independently in the classroom.

3.Maintains student grades and records. Complete all necessary paperwork within required timeframes.

4.Assists in inventory and ordering of necessary supplies and other items needed for the course.

5. Attend faculty meetings and professional development as required.
