    Job Title: Parent Advocate at Rising Ground

    Summary:

    Rising Ground is looking to hire Parent Advocates to assist parents with children in foster care in understanding and navigating the system, making family decisions, staying positive, and overcoming challenges to achieve the goal of reunification. This role involves building connections with parents, collaborating with case planners, and contributing to quicker and safer reunifications for children. The Parent Advocates will be part of the Parents Supporting Parents initiative launched by the NYC Administration for Children's Services (ACS) in partnership with Rise and other child welfare stakeholders.

    Responsibilities:

    • Build relationships and support parents in coping with foster care trauma.
    • Prepare for and participate in various Family Team Conferences.
    • Collaborate with case planners and Co-Parenting Facilitators.
    • Receive training from Rise on child welfare law, policy, and self-care.
    • Use Rise's resources to inform and support parents.
    • Facilitate Restorative Justice Peacekeeping Circles.
    • Partner with foster care agencies to improve engagement with parents.
    • Recognize and celebrate parents' progress towards reunification.
    • Encourage families to access resources and interventions for strengthening.
    • Coach parents on problem-solving and discovering strengths.
    • And more.

    Qualifications:

    • Previous personal experience with the child welfare system as a parent.
    • Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
    • Computer proficiency and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Passion for parent leadership and confidentiality maintenance.
    • Willingness to travel within NYC boroughs.

    It Is a Plus If You:

    • Have prior experience as a Parent Advocate or in similar roles.
    • Are bilingual.
