    Job DescriptionHarris-Stowe State University is a historically Black institution (HBCU) located in the heart of vibrant mid-town St. Louis, Missouri. Harris-Stowe's beautiful campus is minutes from the renown Gateway Arch, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Art and History Museums, Forest Park and other cultural and educational institutions.     Job Summary

    Harris-Stowe State University has an opening as the Head Athletic Trainer. The position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the University's overall sports medicine program, including, but not limited to: injury prevention, evaluation, management, and treatment of athletic injuries, short term and long term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education and counseling of student athletes, and athletics related health care administration in consultation with and under the supervision of the Team Physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel. This position reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. This is a professional athletic administrative position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the NAIA, the America Midwest Conference and Harris-Stowe State University. Employees in this job class may be subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract, which is typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis.

    Essential Functions

    • Provide athletic training services for the University's athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
    • Coordinate the scheduling of all student-athletes for physical examinations, and medical referrals, and determine a student-athlete's ability to practice and/or compete in consultation with the Team Physician(s);
    • Oversee the formation of the University's Athletic Training Intern and development of staff,
    • Identify professional medical service needs of the entire intercollegiate athletics department including the scheduling and coordinating of athletic training staff and students for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions; Recruit and maintain local physicians to serve as team physicians and medical consultants, and to assist with pre-participation physical examinations, and act as the liaison to all medical consultants, specialists, and medical service providers; monitor and provide best insurance company for athletic services and coverage.
    • Consult with the Team Physician(s) for guidance on the treatment of injured student athletes, and report on their progress; Provide weather guidance at athletic contest.

    Minimum Education and Experience

    Minimum Qualification: Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two (2) years of directly related professional experience, or a bachelor's degree in the appropriate area of specialization and four (4) years of directly related experience. Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) Must possess or be eligible for Athletic Training Licensure in the State of Missouri. NAIA athletic training experience preferred.

    Physical Requirements

    • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
    • Must have the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. Must have a valid driver's license.
