    This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Imaging Services duties: Assists with technology support and management of imaging services provided at the organization.A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience.This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs.An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education.Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

    Performs high quality diagnostic ultrasound exams and special diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the direction of the physician and/or radiologist involving the use of high frequency sound waves to investigate the internal aspects of the human body.Requires a high degree of technical knowledge pertaining to acoustics and its various interactions within the human body.Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.

    Job Description

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1.Associatesdegree ortwo yearcertificate program in Ultrasound.

    2.Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

    4. American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) within one year of data of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. Two(2)years of work experience as an ultrasound technologist.

    Duties and Responsibilities:Theduties and responsibilities listedbeloware intended to describe the general nature of workandare not intended to be an all-inclusive list.Other dutiesand responsibilitiesmay be assigned.

    1.Maintainscurrent knowledge in areas of performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures.

    2.Performsmultiple ultrasound examinations performing all studies according to department protocols.Produce high quality, complete ultrasound exams.

    3.Documents all measurements and other key clinical information on worksheets and/or PACS.

    4.Manages daily workflow and volumes tooptimizeefficiency andproductivityreducing patient delays.

    5.Coordinates efforts with colleagues and other modality staff as needed.

    6.Obtains and documents patient history related to procedures;providesclear andaccurateinstructions and explanation of exams and procedures to patients to improve patient satisfaction and the quality of the US exam being performed.

    7.Applies knowledge and safety principles to ensure patient and staff safety.Applies knowledge and principles of Universal Precautions, septic and sterile techniques, including probe disinfection, to minimize exposure and spread of infectious organisms.

    8.Contacts physicians offices to obtain written orders or clarification of patients clinical history for exams when necessary.

    9.Verifies dual patient identifier and correct exam prior to performing any ultrasound exam.

    10.competentlyandaccuratlyuse of all aspects of the RIS, Trace and PACS systems and required IT applications: proactivelyidentifieserrors that need correction and make the corrections and/or notifies theappropriate personnel.

    11.Communicatesin a timely mannerinterdepartmentallyappropriateand adequate informationregardingpatient care.

    12.Abides byHand-off policy to avoid imaging errors and collaborates with other modalities and ancillary staff.

    13.Assists with orientation of new technical personnel to the department.

    14.Overseesstudents in clinical procedures as requested tooptimizepatient care and timeliness of service.

    15.Consults with radiologistsprovidingtechnical interpretation of diagnostic ultrasound images and informs the radiologists of abnormalities or critical results asidentifiedto assess exam completeness.

    16.Perform on-call duties and/or work variable shifts as assigned to meet departmental needs.

    Physical Requirements:

    1.Frequent standing, occasional sitting&walking, lifting of 30-35 lbs.

    2.Pushing, pulling&moving stretchers and ultrasound machines.

    3. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation tooperatetransducers, ultrasound equipment&computer keyboard.

    4. Hearing and visual sufficient to perform examinations,observepatients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment and hospital alarms.

    5.Close contact with patients having contagious diseases.

    6.Exposure to patients injected with radioisotopes.

    7.Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients families, and other personnel throughout the hospital.

    Skills&Abilities:

    1.An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiologytoevaluate laboratory data, past medicalhistoryand pertinent symptoms to tailor the ultrasound examination to each patient individually in a safe,accurateandtimelymanner.

    2. Proficientin OB/GYN, small parts, venous, carotid, abdominal ultrasounds&procedures requiring ultrasound guidance (i.e.biopsies, amniocentesis, aspirations, paracentesis, thoracentesis,hysterosonograms, etc.)

    3.Ability to perform exams in Doppler, M-mode, B-scanand real time modalities.

    4.Ability to concentrate forlong periodsof time under various conditions whileacquiringdiagnostic information.

    5.Knowledge and skills necessary toprovidecareappropriate tothe age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.

    6. Ability to work independently to perform exams and will seek outassistancefrom others andsupervisoras necessary.

    7.Good judgment and works through a problem with creativity andremainsfocused and professional.

    8. Responds tochangeand/or stats in the work schedule in a calm andappropriate manner.

    9.Cooperation with co-workers and management to ensure an atmosphere that isconductiveto high quality patients care.
