    Sr. Chemist Job Description, Specialty Composites Group

    What you will do...

    • Leads and conducts high quality lab work that is needed for development, commercialization, industrialization, and troubleshooting of vinyl ester and polyester based products for sale into the composites industry.
    • Applies creativity and imagination to developing innovative products and testing as needed in existing and emerging markets.
    • Inform and Educate R&D Staff on Sustainability issues and serve as a liaison with Sustainability staff in other global regions. Interface with key customers interested in learning how to implement best practices related to the life cycles of composites using Polynt polymers.
    • Serves as liaison to target customer's research to include academic and national laboratories teams, while qualification and beta testing is being completed, which may include travel to the customer's location and working closely with the customer's R&D/Manufacturing staff.
    • Interprets results of laboratory activities to laboratory personnel and management.
    • Prepares reports and technical papers for publication in trade journals or other publications, when directed by management.
    • Research industry trade publications and patent databases to better understand the nature of existing technology and works with legal experts for the creation of patentable technology.
    • Becomes proficient at operating application-specific equipment related to Additive Manufacturing. This will include CAD design, creation and editing of slicing programs/code, operating a large-scale 3D printer and a 3-axis CNC.
    • Advises management and technical colleagues of activities, new technologies, or competitive products or technologies.
    • Follows safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Perform job duties and obtain training in accordance with our Quality Management System (ISO9001).
    • Keeps laboratory notebook neat and orderly and according to legal guidelines for patent submissions.
    • Uses experimental design and mixture designs to develop robust new products or product improvements.
    • Assist with the creation of application-oriented Technical Data Sheets and Material Safety Data Sheets for developed products.
    • Uses company-specific project planning software to coordinate multiple projects, keep management appraised of progress, and meets schedules.
    • Always exhibits exemplary conduct in dealing with Polynt employees and Polynt's customers and adheres to all Corporate Policies related to ethics.
    • Contributes to the establishment and attainment of a positive and team-oriented environment.

    What You Will Have...

    • Master's degree in chemistry, polymer science, materials science, or related field. A PhD in Composites related research is preferred.
    • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience and/or a combination of training in advanced composites field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training are required.
    • Familiarity of Sustainability activities in the composites/plastics industry. Basic knowledge on LCA calculation a plus.
    • Experience in Additive Manufacturing or aptitude to learn related software and hardware is a plus.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, is required.
    • Must have composite laboratory experience including analytical testing, HPLC, FTIR, FTIR, DMA, DSC, TGA, etc., and mechanical testing. Autoclave operations is a plus.
    • A very hands-on data-driven mindset to product development, applications testing, and problem resolution.
    • Multi-lingual skills are not required but may be beneficial.
    • Ability to work independently and prioritize work effectively.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Open-minded, creative, innovative, and optimistic.
    • Unafraid of technical risk of failure.
    • Critical and analytical thinking
