    Description:


    The Tribal Epidemiology Center Core (TEC Core) Program focuses on providing services in the form of training, technical assistance, education, and internships.

    Training, technical assistance and education topics include, but are not necessarily limited to, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, survey design and implementation, evaluation, tobacco, cultural orientation, data analysis, geographic information systems, grant writing and reporting and many more topics and areas of focus as needs are identified.

    Goals and focus of the program are to improve access to the highest quality American Indian/Alaska Native data and deliver that data to our partners and the tribes we serve.


    The TEC Core Program focuses on seven core functions that must be addressed by all Tribal Epidemiology Centers nationwide:


    • Collect data relating to, and monitor progress made toward meeting, each of the health status objectives of the Indian Health Service, Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and urban Indian organizations in the service area;
    • Evaluate existing delivery systems, data systems and other systems that impact the improvement of Indian health;
    • Assist Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and urban Indian organizations in identifying highest-priority health status objectives and the services needed to achieve those objectives based on epidemiological data;
    • Make recommendations for the targeting of services needed by the populations served;
    • Make recommendations to improve health care delivery systems for Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and urban Indians;
    • Provide requested technical assistance to Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and urban Indian organizations in the development of local health services priorities and incidence and prevalence of rates of disease and other illness in the community;
    • Provide disease surveillance and assist Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and urban Indian communities to promote public health.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:


    Education:
    Mandatory minimum of Master's Degree with Master's of Public Health being preferred. Ph.
    D. highly preferred but not mandatory.


    Experience:
    Mandatory minimum 3+ years of work experience in public health or related field.

    Experience with tribal organizations and/or not-for-profit agencies is highly desired.

    Experience managing personnel and programs

    Experience with federally funded grant program highly desired.


    Knowledge:

    Knowledge of federal grant guidelines and professional office work knowledge.

    Must be able to collaborate with tribes, tribal organizations, IHS, state health departments, federal agencies and other agencies to coordinate and develop training and outreach activities.


    Personnel management combined with program management knowledge are required.

    Federal grant program management skills and experience are highly desired

    Supervision and Management


    Selected individuals for this position must possess the capacity for supervision, coordination and management of both staff members and organizational programs and projects.

    Program coordination responsibilities include but are not limited to;


    • Program planning and development
    • Decision making with concurrence from the Program Manager
    • Fiscal planning and development and budget responsibilities
    • Reporting program activities/progress to supervisor on a regular basis
    • Accepting responsibility for program performance and meeting goals/objectives
    Personnel management responsibilities include, but are not limited to;


    • Candidate evaluation and selection
    • Discipline, as needed, of subordinates
    • Communication of duties, responsibilities, and expectations to subordinate(s)
    • Consistent communication of progress and feedback regarding performance
    • Communication to supervisor regarding subordinate(s) performance
    • Coaching, training and skills development
    • Responsible for monitoring and correcting attendance and punctuality problems
    • Accepting responsibility for subordinate's performance where reasonable
    Other duties as assigned.


    Travel:

    In and out-of-state travel may be required in fulfillment of job requirements and training.
