    To provide superior quality, competitive value and outstanding service by establishing and maintaining the efficient operation of the cancer registry, to accession cancer cases, report cancer cases to state/national agencies and follow patients with a diagnosis of malignancy, to retrieve and analyze registry data and to disseminate this data in accordance with professional ethics.

    Maintains the Cancer Registry to be in compliance with the Florida Cancer Data Systems (FCDS), as required under Florida State Law and National American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR).

    Primary Accountabilities


    Case finding:


    Initiates appropriate case finding techniques to capture reportable cases for the creation and maintenance of a complete and valid data base by utilizing appropriate computer data bases.


    Abstracting:

    Standards Maintenance:
    Maintains the Florida Cancer Data Systems standards in collecting and analyzing data on all reportable diagnoses.


    Data Reporting:
    Maintains annual renewal to FCDS IDEAS system.

    Accurately maintains current database for reporting to FCDS as required by IDEAS reporting system

    Reports to Neoplastic Disease Committee/Cancer Commission as quarterly.

    ACHA Requirements

    Performs case list review, identifies and abstracts reportable cases annually.


    Quality control:
    Assists the physician with medical record QA reviews.

    Reports to Neoplastic Disease Committee/Cancer Commission as assigned.

    Maintains and monitors abstracting quality, coding, follow-up and data processing procedures.


    Tumor Board:
    Case reviews

    Maintains required documentation.


    Follow-up of Identified Cases:
    Assists the Cancer Registry Data Assistant in the preparation METRIQ monthly follow-up.

    Supports Cancer Registry Data Assistant to ensure:
    Monitors data base

    Prepares quarterly Follow-up reports for reporting to Neoplastic Disease Committee/Cancer Committee.


    Additional registry operations:
    Reviews and revises the policy and procedure manual annually ensuring compliance with state and national standards.

    Attends and participates in committees that further the work of the Cancer Program Office.

    Participation in screenings/cancer program office community activities:

    • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification required.
    • Prove outstanding working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and coding principles.
    • Type 50 wpm.
    • Critical thinking skills to abstract, analyze and utilize pertinent data.
    • State of Florida Abstractor Code Qualified preferred.
    • This position is remote with some in-office responsibilities.
