    The Denver Office of the Municipal Public Defender (OMPD) is a comprehensive public defender office that provides independent and innovative representation of individuals charged with municipal ordinance violations and traffic cases in the Denver County Court System.

    Job Summary

    This position reports on site at the Denver Office of the Municipal Public Defender located at 710 W. Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80203 and other onsite locations.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides ongoing case management to clients and culturally and linguistically relevant resource referrals
    • Assesses client needs, current resource/service connections, strengths, and supports
    • Develops solutions with clients to resolve immediate or recurring problems and barriers to receiving and/or participating in services or programs
    • Works in close partnership with attorneys, administrative staff, and other Client Support Team staff as part of a holistic defense team
    • Supports the defense team by being present regularly at court and at OMPD's office for on-demand, client support

    Requirements

    • Bilingual in English and Spanish
    • Knowledge and experience with the Denver Criminal Justice system, court processes, public defense - including the role of the defense council
    • Knowledge of Denver metro resources, services, and community supports
    • Experience working with people experiencing marginalization
    • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion and language access
    • Skill in engagement techniques sufficient to obtain and verify information with clients

    Education/Experience Equivalency

    Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
