    Job Summary
    The position in the JTV Large Animal Teaching Hospital is responsible for assisting with the daily care of farm animal species, non-equine, including milking of the lactating herd, daily herd checks, and possibly feeding of all non-equine animals owned by the College of Veterinary Medicine.

    Essential Functions

    There are two shifts associated with this position, they are broken down by AM and PM shifts.

    AM shift starts at 4:30 AM and ends around 8:30 AM. The responsibilities include but are not limited to, setting up milking system, insuring equipment has been properly cleaned from prior shift. Placing out feed for animals assigned to milking string following the milking procedures. Bring animals in from pastures, following SOPs to insure hygiene standards are met, insure that all animals in the milking string are healthy with no signs of systemic illness. Insure that the milking parlor is cleaned and animals are returned to proper pasture prior to leaving facilities. Responsibilities also include feeding of replacement heifers, birth to weaning and any bull/steer calves that are being raised in the hutch pen. Employees may be assigned to feeding all non-equine animals that make up the teaching herds of the Large Animal Teaching Hospital. Assist with the daily care of all non-equine species that make up the teaching herds.

    PM shift starts at 2:30 PM and ends around 6:30 PM. The responsibilities include but are not limited to, setting up milking system, insuring equipment has been properly cleaned from prior shift. Placing out feed for animals assigned to milking string following the milking procedures. Bring animals in from pastures, following SOPs to insure hygiene standards are met, insure that all animals in the milking string are healthy with no signs of systemic illness. Insure that the milking parlor is cleaned and animals are returned to proper pasture prior to leaving facilities. The afternoon shifts also includes feeding of replacement heifers, birth to weaning and any bull/steer calves that are being raised in the hutch pen. The afternoon shift is also responsible for cleaning up feed, stanchion area and holding lot prior to leaving the facilities. Additional responsibilities include, but not limited to, performing inventory check on all paddocks assigned to the Large Animal Teaching Herds, non-equine, which includes ensuring all animals are accounted for, no signs of predation noted, reporting any abnormal findings to the appropriate personnel, assisting with the securing of small ruminates, sheep and goats, as needed to minimize the risk of predation, assisting with the daily care of all non-equine species that make up the teaching herds.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Currently enrolled as a student at Auburn University.

    Pay Rate
    $10.00/hour

    Work Hours
    Sun - Sat, 4:30am - 9:00am OR Sun - Sat, 2:30pm - 6:30pm. This is a 7 day/week position. Some flexibility will be required.
